Here’s everything we know about the second season, including what’s been revealed and when to expect more updates.
We are now less than a month away from the start of production for the highly anticipated second season of Dexter: Resurrection. More than six months have passed since Season 1 wrapped its run on Paramount+, and fans have been eager to learn what’s next for Dexter Morgan’s adventures in New York City.
The series was officially renewed for Season 2 in October 2025, just one month after the Season 1 finale premiered. During that same week, the writers’ room opened, actually marking the beginning of development for the next chapter of the series led by Michael C. Hall.
With filming right around the corner, here’s everything we know so far about Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Release Date
Paramount+ has not officially announced a premiere date yet, but EP and showrunner Clyde Phillips has previously revealed that the plan is for the new season to arrive in October 2026.
If that schedule actually holds, the timing would be perfect, since October 2026 will mark the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the original Dexter series, making it a fitting time to return with another season.
Is There a Trailer for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2?
At the moment, there is no trailer available for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. Paramount+ has not released any teaser, trailer, or first-look footage for the upcoming season yet. That makes sense at this stage of production, since filming has not officially begun, and promotional stuff is actually months away.
When Could the First Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Trailer Be Released?
While no official timeline has been announced, the most likely time for the first trailer to drop would be July 2026 during San Diego Comic-Con.
It is common for big television shows to debut their first trailers or exclusive footage such as sneak peek clips at SDCC, and the event would fall just a few months before the planned October 2026 release window mentioned by showrunner Clyde Phillips. If the show follows a similar promotional pattern to other famous series, a teaser or trailer debut at Comic-Con would actually make perfect sense.
How Many Episodes Will Season 2 Have?
Just like the first season, Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes.
Which Characters Are Returning?
Several characters have already been confirmed to return through interviews. We can definitely expect to see Dexter Morgan once again portrayed by Michael C. Hall, alongside Harrison Morgan played by Jack Alcott and Harry Morgan, portrayed by James Remar.
While not all casting announcements have been finalized yet, several other main characters are expected to return as well. These include Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf), Melvin Oliva (Dominic Fumusa), Blessing Kamara (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine), and Elsa Rivera (Emilia Suárez).

One character whose return is still not certain is Charley Brown, played by Uma Thurman. However, according to Clyde Phillips, the actress previously expressed interest in coming back for Season 2, something that leaves the possibility open.
Who Is Writing the New Season?
Most of the writing team from Season 1 is returning for the upcoming season.
The first two episodes already have confirmed writers. Episode 1 will be written by Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds, while Episode 2 is set to be written by Scott Buck, who previously worked as showrunner during Seasons 6, 7, and 8 of the original series.
When Does Filming Begin, and Where?
Production for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Since the story remains set in New York City, filming will once again take place in the city. This year’s production is especially notable because the series will actually become the first show to lease studio space at the brand-new Sunset Pier 94 Studios.
Who Will Be the Main Villain in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2?
Just like previous seasons of the franchise, the second season will feature a main antagonist. All signs point that Don Framt, also known as the New York Ripper, will play a major role in the upcoming story.
In a recent interview, Clyde Phillips confirmed that the character will become more significant moving forward, especially after the very strong fan interest and theories that followed Season 1.
Who Is Directing Season 2?
The directing structure will remain similar to the first season. Marcos Siega is returning and will direct six episodes of the new season.
The remaining four episodes will actually be directed by an additional director whose name has not yet been officially announced.
What Could the Story Be About?
Plot details for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 are being kept tightly under wraps, but development is already well underway and the scripts are close to being completed.
While the exact direction of the story is still a secret, the next season is expected to build on the events of Season 1, including the aftermath of Batista’s death and the New York Ripper.
When Will We Hear More News?
Traditionally, the first week of filming actually tends to bring many updates. Casting announcements and set photos often begin surfacing online once cameras start rolling. Since production is scheduled to begin in mid-April, you should start keeping an eye out for new updates.
As always, Dexter Daily will be closely following every development about Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
