Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Gets 2026 Release Month Confirmed by Showrunner

We know when the second season will debut, and it aligns with Dexter's past seasons.

We are now just four months away from the start of production on the second season of Dexter: Resurrection, and a major update has finally surfaced about one of the things fans care about most: when the series will return on Paramount+. As the writers continue shaping the story, the broader Dexter schedule for 2026 is starting to come into focus, and the picture is definitely much clearer than before.

Unlike season one, which began filming in early January 2025 and premiered roughly six months later in mid-July, the timeline for season two is actually shaping up a little differently. This time, Michael C. Hall, Jack Alcott, James Remar, and the rest of the returning cast are expected to start filming in the heart of Spring.

With production launching later in the year, a summer debut like last time was never especially likely, particularly since filming will still be underway during those months.

That naturally means a longer wait to see Dexter Morgan back on screen once again, which raised some concerns among fans. When news broke that production would start later than it did for season one, many assumed the show might slip into 2027. Some even speculated that changes in Paramount’s leadership had lowered the franchise’s priority. For a while, that uncertainty was actually strong.

When Will Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Premiere on Paramount+?

Thankfully, those fears can now be put to rest. The second season is officially set to premiere in 2026, and thanks to showrunner Clyde Phillips' confirmation, we now know the exact month. The series will return in October. That timing feels especially fitting, since October has always been the natural home for Dexter, from the original series, and it’s a slot that perfectly matches the tone of the show, especially now that it takes place in New York City.

Phillips revealed the news during a recent interview on Love It Film, addressing the unusually short gap between filming and airing for season one. He explained that the process was not out of the ordinary and confirmed they’re following a similar model again, starting production in April and airing the new season in October.

What actually makes this October premiere even more exciting is how closely it aligns with a major milestone for the franchise. October 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the original Dexter pilot, which first aired on October 1, 2006. While the exact premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, the idea that season two will arrive during the same month adds something more to the celebration especially for longtime fans. It is hard to imagine a better way to honor two decades of Dexter than with the return of a brand-new season!

Although the wait will be a few months longer than many initially expected, there are solid reasons behind the decision, and returning the series to a fall release window just feels right. With production beginning in less than four months, more updates are right around the corner.
