Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 – Uma Thurman Wants to Return, Says Showrunner

Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection hasn’t premiered yet, but there’s already a Season 2 update!

As the highly anticipated premiere of Dexter: Resurrection draws closer, critics are already raving about the show. But even before the first episode airs, exciting news has emerged about Season 2 — and it involves none other than Hollywood icon Uma Thurman.

That’s right. While Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 hasn’t even officially begun, early discussions about the second season are already underway. Longtime fans may recall that both Michael C. Hall and showrunner Clyde Phillips hinted months ago that Resurrection is not a one-and-done revival like Dexter: New Blood. In fact, Hall recently confirmed that the new chapter is designed to run for "years — with an S."

With production on the first season officially wrapped, attention is naturally shifting to Season 2, which is tentatively scheduled for release in 2026 — perfectly aligning with the franchise’s 20th anniversary. And one of the show’s most exciting new cast members is ready to stick around: Uma Thurman.

Uma Thurman Wants More Dexter

Thurman, who plays the mysterious and formidable Charley, has quickly become one of the strongest casting choices the Dexter universe has ever seen. Not only does she bring undeniable star power to the screen, but according to those on set, she’s loving every minute of it — especially her scenes with series lead Michael C. Hall.

In a recent interview with Collider, conducted just before filming wrapped, showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed that Thurman is so enthusiastic about her role that she’s already expressed interest in returning for more seasons. That passion, in turn, inspired some major creative changes.

“When we first wrote Uma’s character [Charley], it was a pretty straightforward role,” Phillips explained. “Once we got Uma, Scott [Reynolds] and I sat down and wrote several more scenes for her that were of substance, so she wasn’t just a bodyguard. We humanized her, and she was so grateful for it. She loved it. She called and said she wants to come back next year. We’d have to figure out how to do that, but the point is that she’s very happy with what we’ve been doing.”

Charley’s Role Could Expand in Season 2

Not only is this confirmation of Thurman's enthusiasm a win for the show’s future, but it also hints at a deeper, more complex arc for her character. In Season 1, Charley serves as Leon Prater’s right hand and fixer — and from what we've seen in teasers, she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty.

What’s even more intriguing is the fact that Uma Thurman is credited as the #2 cast member in Dexter: Resurrection, listed directly after Michael C. Hall and ahead of returning fan-favorite David Zayas. Could her high billing be connected to the writers’ decision to expand her role and potentially keep her around for Season 2?

In a recent behind-the-scenes video, Thurman offered a cryptic hint about her character’s true nature:

“She’s not quite what she appears to be. But on the surface, she’s hardcore.”

This leaves fans with endless questions. Will Charley become an unlikely ally to Dexter? Or is she destined to become one of his most dangerous adversaries yet?

Whatever the outcome, one thing is certain: Uma Thurman is all in — and that’s a huge win for Dexter: Resurrection.

Stay tuned for more updates as we count down to the premiere — and beyond.
