Showrunner Confirms the Exact 2026 Filming Start Date for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2

Clyde Phillips also shared how long the writing process for the new season will take.

A little over two and a half months have gone by since Dexter: Resurrection wrapped its debut season, and with the show proving to be a big success for Paramount+ on multiple fronts, a second season was (relatively) quickly given the green light.

That momentum led to the writers’ room officially opening, something that never actually happened with Dexter: Original Sin, which was un-renewed. But for Resurrection it is a clear sign that Season 2 is now fully in development.

The next big question is how long it will take before the new season is completely written. In a recent appearance on The Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast, executive producer and writer Clyde Phillips not only shared how long the writing phase will run, but also revealed the exact date cameras start rolling on Season 2.

He explained that the writers will need “roughly five months” to complete the scripts. Since the room opened on October 6th, that timeline places hte end of writing in early March 2026, though it’s quite common for some tweaks and revisions to continue right up to production.

Phillips also confirmed when Michael C. Hall, Jack Alcott, James Remar and the rest of the core cast return to set. Filming begins on Monday, April 13, 2026, lining up perfectly with Dexter Daily’s earlier report through a credible source. The production is once again locked to New York City, which continues to serve as the story’s backdrop.

With more than five months before the cameras start rolling, curiosity is already building around the new characters the writers plan to introduce. One of the most talked about additions is the New York Ripper, whose return and identity reveal have been officially confirmed for the upcoming season.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll take center stage as the main antagonist, but speculation about who might portray him has been swirling for months and it is safe to say that it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
