Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Reveals Official Episode Count and Directors

Here’s how many episodes the second season is going to have, according to the showrunner.

Even though we are almost halfway between the end of Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 and the start of Season 2 filming, the hype around the series shows no big signs of slowing down. New fans continue to binge-watch not only the original Dexter series but also the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, eager to catch up and understand why this chapter has quickly earned such strong praise among audiences.

Interest in the revival remains high, and hype across the fanbase feels almost as strong as it did during the season’s original run.

Speaking of the original series, longtime viewers will remember that Dexter delivered 12-episode seasons consistently for eight straight years. That actually changed with Dexter: New Blood, which dropped the count to 10 episodes, a format that was later followed by Original Sin and Dexter: Resurrection. This shift reflects a broader industry trend, as both cable and streaming platforms increasingly favor shorter seasons, of course to reduce costs but also to focus on tighter, more streamlined storytelling.

For a while, 10 episodes seemed to be the new standard, but recently many platforms have gone even further, experimenting with nine- and eight-episode seasons. Unsurprisingly, this has not resonated well with audiences who just want more time with the characters and stories they love. With Paramount recently undergoing a leadership change, we noticed that some fans began to worry that Dexter: Resurrection might also fall victim to further episode reductions.

How Many Episodes Will Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Have?

Thankfully, there is reassuring news. Showrunner Clyde Phillips recently appeared on Love It Film and actually confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will once again consist of 10 episodes, with its premiere month already locked in (see here). The confirmation came as Phillips discussed the production process, explaining that the show uses block shooting, meaning two episodes are filmed at a time to maximize locations and efficiency before another director steps in for the next block.

During that conversation, Phillips also revealed that longtime Dexter director Marcos Siega will return for a third consecutive season of the main timeline, excluding the prequel. Siega is set to direct six episodes this time around, which actually lines up with his previous workload on New Blood and Season 1 of Resurrection. The remaining four episodes will be handled by a second director, who Phillips confirmed is a woman, though her name hasn’t been finalized yet due to the deal still being in progress.

All in all, a confirmed 10-episode season combined with Marcos Siega’s return behind the camera is avery encouraging sign for the future of Dexter: Resurrection. With Siega also serving as an executive producer, Season 2 is going to be another demanding year for him creatively, and if past seasons are anything to go by, that effort is likely to pay off in a big way for fans.
