Dexter Is About to Lose One of Its Biggest Streaming Homes

After two years, the original Dexter series will soon be leaving one of the world’s most popular streaming platforms.

Over the past six years, the Dexter saga has seen a massive resurgence in popularity. For some, this can be attributed to the franchise expanding with new installments, including Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, and Dexter: Resurrection. These prequel and sequel series definitely helped bring the original show back into the spotlight, but the renewed popularity of the franchise is not just because of the new shows.

An important factor behind Dexter’s big comeback has actually been its return to Netflix. After leaving the streaming platform in 2020, the original Dexter series was licensed again in 2024 through a deal with Paramount Global, allowing it to stream worldwide once more.

And that move proved to be an absolute game changer. Since the series was accessible to millions of viewers again, it was inevitable that Dexter would find a new audience. From that point on, the show actually saw a remarkable surge in popularity, especially among younger adult viewers from Generation Z.

However, the show’s return to Netflix was not permanent. In the United States, Dexter remained on the platform for about a year before leaving on June 19, 2025, after negotiations between Netflix and Paramount over extending the licensing agreement reportedly fell through.

While American Netflix users lost access at that point, audiences in many other parts of the world were still able to watch the series there. But it seems like this situation is about to change. At the end of March 2026, more than 30 countries will lose access to Dexter on Netflix as the licensing deal expires.

On March 30, the series will leave the platform in several European, Asian, and also African territories. In Europe, this actually includes Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. In Asia, the affected regions include Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Turkey, while South Africa will also lose the series.

A day later, on March 31, 2026, the removal will extend to parts of the Americas. Viewers in Canada and Mexico will see the series leave in North America, while Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia will lose access in South America.

If you live in one of these countries and are currently watching Dexter on Netflix, you may have already noticed the “leaving soon” notice on the show’s page. That banner actually signals that the countdown has begun, which means that viewers will need to finish their watch before the series disappears from the platform in their region.

This of course is a normal part of streaming licensing agreements. Shows and movies are most of the times available on platforms for a limited time, and that depends on the deals made between studios and disrtibutors. Even so, Dexter’s return to Netflix played a huge role in expanding the franchise’s reach and introducing the series to a whole new generation of fans.

It is also worth noting that the newer installments in the franchise Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, and Dexter: Resurrection have never been available on Netflix. Those series actually continue to remain exclusive to Paramount+, which will now be the primary streaming home for the Dexterverse once the original show leaves Netflix worldwide.
