We are officially two episodes into Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, and one of the biggest talking points so far is Dexter and Joey Quinn's long-awaited reunion. But beyond the excitement of seeing the two former colleagues share the screen again, their conversation in Episode 2 brought back a long-running fan theory: Does Quinn actually know that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher?
The last time the two men interacted was back in 2012 (in the show's timeline) when they were together in the Miami Metro interrogation room following Dexter's murder of Oliver Saxon. Now, 14 years later, their reunion has given us three major reasons to believe Quinn might know more than he's letting on.
And the third clue is arguably the most interesting.
How Dexter and Quinn Reunited in Episode 2
Quinn catches Dexter by surprise when he shows up at his apartment, already knowing where he lives. After a quick hug, the two head to a nearby bar to catch up. But it's what happens during their conversation that makes this reunion even more interesting.
Three Clues From Episode 2 That Suggest Quinn Knows the Truth
1. He Refuses to Enter Dexter's Apartment
The first sign actually comes when Dexter invites Quinn inside his apartment. Quinn turns down the invitation and instead suggests that they head to a bar for a drink.
At first, this might seem like an ordinary decision. But the way Quinn reacts by briefly looking into the apartment with a suspicious look on his face before he refuses, could suggest that he's uncomfortable being alone with Dexter. Is he simply being cautious, or does he genuinely believe he could be putting himself in danger?
It's not proof of anything of course, but his reaction is definitely worth noticing.
2. He Dismisses Batista's Attempts to Expose Dexter
Another interesting detail comes during the conversation at the bar. When the subject of Angel Batista comes up, Quinn appears completely dismissive of his longtime friend's attempts to uncover Dexter's past.
Batista secretly traveled to New York City to find evidence that Dexter was the real Bay Harbor Butcher, even though the case had been closed for more than ten years. But Quinn doesn't really seem concerned about his friend's suspicions.
"I can't believe he went down the same LaGuerta rabbit hole thinking you're the Bay Harbor Butcher," he tells Dexter, before adding, "I mean, in what world does that even begin to make sense?"
Why would Quinn be so quick to dismiss Batista's investigation?
One possibility is that he has already made up his mind about Dexter and has decided to take a much softer, friendlier approach. Rather than confronting him directly, Quinn might be trying to keep Dexter comfortable while secretly trying to find direct incriminating evidence against him, or whether he actually was the one that killed Batista.
3. His Hand Gesture When He Mentions the Bay Harbor Butcher
This is arguably the most interesting detail from the entire reunion.
At one point during their conversation, Quinn reveals that he has left Miami Metro and is now working as a private investigator on the Leon Prater case. This gives him access to details about the evidence discovered by the NYPD, including connections to several notorious killers from Dexter's past.
He mentions the Ice Truck Killer, the Trinity Killer, Travis Marshall, and, in his own words, "of course, the Bay Harbor Butcher."
But there's something about the way he says those final words that caught our attention.
As Quinn mentions the Bay Harbor Butcher, he makes a very specific gesture with his right hand, pointing directly toward Dexter. Someone could interpret this as a simple reference to the fact that Dexter was accused of being the killer. However, it could also be a subtle hint that Quinn knows the accusation was never actually wrong.
Perhaps the gesture was unintentional, or maybe Quinn briefly let his guard down. Either way, it's an interesting detail, especially considering that Dexter doesn't appear to notice it at all. Could this have been deliberately included as a small visual clue for viewers?
Has Joey Quinn Known Dexter's Secret All Along?

The possibility that Quinn knows the truth isn't exactly new. The OG series already hinted at it back in Season 5, when Quinn hired Stan Liddy to investigate Dexter after becoming suspicious of him following Rita's murder. Although that storyline was eventually abandoned, it always seemed as though Quinn had discovered something was wrong with Dexter but decided to turn a blind eye.
Now, after their reunion in Dexter: Resurrection, those old suspicions are actually coming back into the picture. Whether Quinn is genuinely unaware of Dexter's secret or has known the truth for years remains to be seen.
What do you think? Did you notice these three clues during their reunion, or is there another detail from Episode 2 that suggests Quinn knows exactly who Dexter really is?
