Krysten Ritter Reflects on Dexter: Resurrection: “It’s So Rare Something Turns Out This Good”

The actress appeared on David Dastmalchian’s YouTube show Grave Conversations.

When people look back on the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, one of the first things that comes to mind (aside from how well the season came together overall) is actually its impressive casting. Across its 10-episode run, the season introduced many new characters, some of them played by high-profile, widely recognized actors. Among the most memorable additions were Krysten Ritter and David Dastmalchian.

Ritter portrayed Mia Lapierre, better known as the serial killer Lady Vengeance. On the surface, Mia was just a sommelier, but beneath that persona hid a far darker secret. The character made her first appearance in Episode 4, “Call Me Red,” when she was introduced both to audiences and to Dexter himself during Leon Prater’s gathering at his penthouse.

Recently, Ritter appeared on Dastmalchian’s YouTube interview series Grave Conversations, where the host interviews guests while both lie inside caskets. During their conversation, Ritter reflected several times on her experience working on Dexter: Resurrection, actually speaking about the project with nothing but appreciation.

Dastmalchian praised Ritter’s character, describing Mia as “so awesome,” before adding that he felt proud of the show itself. “I’m so proud of that show. That was really fun,” he said.

Ritter of course, echoed that enthusiasm. The actress, who has spoken positively about her time on Dexter in many interviews over the past few months, explained just how rare it is for a project to come together so well. “It’s just so rare that something turns out so good,” she said. “It doesn’t always happen, and when it does, you’re just like, ‘Yes!’”

In the months following her three-episode arc on Dexter: Resurrection, Ritter also discussed the possibility of returning as Lady Vengeance in future seasons, even though the character was actually seen lying dead in Episode 6.

Some viewers (along with Ritter herself) have theorized that Mia Lapierre may have faked her death to escape prison, possibly with help from Uma Thurman’s character, Charley. While many fans remain...skeptical about this theory, the fate of Lady Vengeance is still in the hands of the writers.

Reflecting further on the experience during the interview, Ritter actually praised both the production and the atmosphere on set. She explained that joining an already established franchise could have been a bit intimidating, but her experience turned out to be really positive.

“Dexter was so well-run, in addition to everybody being nice,” Ritter said. “Walking into an already successful, big-name brand show, I just had such a great experience on it. There’s always something where you say, this production was great but the hours were terrible, or there were so many night shoots. But this was great, and the character is one of my favorites I’ve ever played. I just loved it.”
