Michael C. Hall Hints at the Return of a Classic Original-Series ‘Temptation’ in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2

It looks like Dexter Morgan is about to fully slip back into his old ways in the upcoming second season.

As filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 continues, the cast briefly paused on May 14 for Emmy campaign-related events. That break included a couple of FYC Q&A panels, which actually brought some interesting conversations, even if the full recordings aren’t publicly available yet. Still, bits of information have been surfacing through press questions and cast comments.

One of the people present was Michael C. Hall, who took part in a press Q&A where among other things, he was asked about something very familiar: his old method of disposing of bodies at sea using his boat, the “Slice of Life.”

The question came up in connection with the Season 1 finale of Dexter: Resurrection, where Dexter steals Leon Prater’s luxury yacht in New York Harbor to dump the billionaire’s body, which back then created speculation about whether this actually signals a return to his good-old habits.

The question, as highlighted by outlets including ScreenRant, was basically whether Dexter Morgan might go back to using water as his main way of getting rid of victims again, instead of the incinerator method seen more recently.

Michael C. Hall didn’t give anything away directly, which is expected, but he did tease the idea in a careful way.

He suggested it’s a “reasonable theory” and hinted that Dexter might find it hard to resist the “temptation” of that old routine, especially given New York City’s access to waterways. He also jokingly pointed out that while the Gulf Stream might not be an option, there are still plenty of strong water currents around the city that could serve a similar purpose.

Based on that kind of teasing, it definitely feels possible that Dexter Morgan’s classic burial strategy could come back in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. New York is surrounded by water, and the setting itself actually supports that method in a way that Iron Lake in Dexter: New Blood never really could. Back then, Dexter had no legit choice and ended up using an incinerator, which was a method that continued into most of the first season of Resurrection.

With a potentially big time jump leading into Season 2, it wouldn’t be surprising if Dexter slowly phases out the incinerator approach entirely and returns to something closer to his original MO.

It definitely fits both the character and the environment he’s operating in now, and brings a bit of nostalgia back into the story, especially since the show will be celebrating its 20th anniversary just in time for the new season.

Whether he actually builds a new boat or even revives something like the original “Slice of Life” remains unknown. However, it is pretty clear that he won’t be pulling a GTA by using Leon Prater’s stolen yacht long-term, despite some fan theories following the Season 1 finale.

Given Dexter’s situation in New York, relying on something so huge and directly connected to a high-profile figure who, at this point will be considered missing, would be a crazy move.
