A Dexter fan recently met Patrick Gibson and asked if he’d be in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. His cryptic response had the fan sharing the exchange with others.
As Dexter: Resurrection continues filming Season 2, fans are eager to see what is in store for Dexter Morgan and the rest of the main characters. And since this is Dexter we're talking about, there is always room for speculation about which familiar faces could return, even for a small cameo.
One name that has been at the center of those conversations is Patrick Gibson, who became a fan favorite for playing a 20-year-old Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin.
Now, a new interaction between Gibson and a fan at a recent convention has added some more fuel to the speculation.
Patrick Gibson Gives Cryptic Response About Dexter: Resurrection Season 2
The latest development comes from a fan who attended MCM Comic Con in Birmingham, which is taking place from August 6 through August 9. According to a post shared on the Dexter: Original Sin subreddit, the fan met Gibson at the convention, took a photo with him, and asked directly if he'd be in Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection.
The actor simply replied:
"Oh, when is that out?"
That response immediately caught the fan's attention, leading them to share both the photo and the conversation on Reddit. While Gibson's answer doesn't confirm anything, fans immediately began reading into it. Could he have been trying to avoid revealing something?
For some, it sounded like the kind of awkward response an actor might actually give when they are unable to discuss a project due to contractual restrictions. Others believe it could even be a subtle hint that Gibson will make a small appearance as young Dexter Morgan in Season 2, potentially through a flashback.
If you've been following our updates here at Dexter Daily, you may already know that speculation about Gibson's involvement began shortly after Season 2 started filming in April 2026.
The rumors first started after director Marcos Siega shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set that appeared to feature an M99 bottle prop with a 1992 expiration date, sparking theories about a 1990s flashback before Siega eventually addressed and shut down the talk. Around that same period, Gibson was also reportedly spotted in New York City.
While both of those details could simply have been coincidences, this latest interaction at MCM Comic Con has once again put Gibson's name right back into the conversation.
Could Patrick Gibson Actually Return as Young Dexter?
At this point, there is still no confirmation that Gibson will appear in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, and his response at the convention should not be treated as fact. Actors often have to play dumb or be careful about what they reveal regarding upcoming projects.
Still, it is easy to understand why fans are reading into it, and it is not just wishful thinking. If Season 2 actually includes flashbacks to Dexter Morgan's younger years, bringing Gibson back would make perfect sense.
He already established himself as the face of young Dexter through Dexter: Original Sin, and considering the prequel was sadly canceled after its first season, seeing Paddy return to the role would undoubtedly be a welcome surprise.
And let's be honest, at this point, we'd much rather see Paddy Gibson return as young Dexter than have Michael C. Hall put on that wig again.
