Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Is Bringing Back a Classic Dexter Morgan Role Fans Haven’t Seen in 13 Years

Surprise, surprise! Fresh set photos from Dexter: Resurrection confirm fans are in for a major treat.

Twenty years ago, when audiences first met Dexter Morgan, it was a groundbreaking moment for television. The series introduced an antihero who was also a serial killer as its main character. Yet despite what Dexter did, he targeted people he believed deserved it most, while his day job was closely connected to the dark side of his secret life.

Ever since the show began, Dexter worked at the Miami Metro Police Department as a forensic technician specializing in bloodstain pattern analysis, commonly known as a blood spatter analyst. But following the events of the original series finale 13 years ago, Dexter not only left his job behind, but seemingly left that part of his identity behind as well.

Now, after all these years, it looks like fans are in for a very exciting surprise.

Dexter Morgan Is Actually Back in Forensics

Brand-new set photos from the upcoming second season of Dexter: Resurrection appear to show Dexter Morgan returning to the type of work he was best known for during the original series. That's right. It looks like Dexter is once again working as a forensic technician again, after thirteen years.

The development would be a major throwback to the OG  Dexter, and it seems like the writing team behind Dexter: Resurrection is finding a fitting way to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary by bringing one of Dexter Morgan's most iconic roles back into the story. However, this time Dexter is actually doing it in New York City.

In the new set photos taken on Thursday, August 20, Michael C. Hall was spotted filming an exterior scene in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. The scene appears to take place at a crime scene surrounded by NYPD officers.

Among them was Dexter Morgan, wearing a light gray shirt with a forensics ID card hanging around his neck. He was also seen carrying a black case filled with forensic equipment.

A Major Change for Dexter in Season 2

The photos definitely suggest that at some point during Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, Dexter actually will leave behind the rideshare driver job he took when he first arrived in New York City and move into a career that feels much more familiar.

During the first season, with the help of Blessing Kamara, Dex relied on his rideshare job to make a living while trying to build a new life in New York. Now, it appears that life could be changing in a very big way.

The idea of Dexter finding his way back into law enforcement has been theorized by fans over the past few months, and these new images provide some of the strongest evidence yet that it could actually happen.

Could Dexter and Harrison Be Working Together?

Jack Alcott was also spotted filming at the same crime scene as Harrison Morgan, wearing what appears to be an NYPD rookie police uniform, the same one from previous set photos from weeks ago. That raises an exciting possibility that Dexter and Harrison actually be working together even at the same NYPD precinct.

At this point, there is still a lot we don't know about the scene or the circumstances surrounding it. The nature of the crime is also unknown.

Still, seeing Dexter dressed in forensic gear again, complete with an NYPD ID and a case of equipment, is enough to make this one of the most exciting Season 2 developments yet. The similarities to his OG series appearance are especially striking, making the pics seem like a deliberate callback to the character's roots.

With Dexter celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, bringing Dexter Morgan back to the job that defined so much of his original life would be a fitting way to honor the franchise's history. It also creates an interesting question for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. And that is what exactly happens that leads Dexter back into a forensic role within the NYPD?

For now, that's something fans will have to wait to find out. But based on these new set photos, it certainly looks like Dexter Morgan is getting back to doing what he does best after more than a decade.
