Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Villain Confirmed to Be Influenced by Fans’ Craze For Him

It looks like the fans have won once again, with the next season set to shine a brighter spotlight on this character.

The writing process for Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection has now been underway for nearly two months, and with the series still in development, some intriguing updates have surfaced, thanks largely to interviews with the writing team, and especially Clyde Phillips, the mastermind behind the show.

As Dexter: Resurrection continues to gain popularity week by week, and new viewers are flocking to the series, its momentum actually shows no signs of slowing. Alongside this audience that grows, intrigue around a standout character has only got stronger. And it is someone who not only captured the fans’ attention but, in some ways, even overshdowed other characters played by A-list actors. Naturally, we’re talking about the mysterious New York Ripper.

Although his true identity remains shrouded in mystery, known only by the very unusual name Don Framt, the character’s motives and the fact that his face was never revealed have made fans come up with theories. While many of these speculations have ultimately proven incorrect, the buzz surrounding the New York Ripper has had a surprisingly positive effect on the show.

In a recent interview on The Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast, showrunner Clyde Phillips wasn't allowed to share anything at all about the next season, he actually surprised the hosts by confirming that the New York Ripper is set to return in Season 2.

But what is even more exciting is that the overwhelming fan response to this character in Season 1 prompted the writing team to delve deeper into his story, giving him a more prominent role moving forward.

Season 2 will not only reveal the person behind the New York Ripper, the man responsible for 22 brutal murders over the decades, but will also expand his storyline significantly. While Phillips stopped short of labeling him the “big bad” of the season, like Trinity was in previous seasons, the possibility still remains open.

This raises some intriguing questions about the character’s trajectory and how the writers might adapt if fan reactions weren’t as strong. Regardless, it’s a very clear win for audiecnes: the team behind Dexter: Resurrection was very impressed by the attention the New York Ripper received, and they’re now doubling down to ensure fans are hooked from the very first episode of Season 2, which will likely debut in Fall of 2026.
