It’s hard to believe that it’s already been almost two months since Dexter: Resurrection wrapped up its first season on Paramount+, and while the blood has barely dried, the next chapter of Dexter Morgan’s story is already taking shape. Following the show’s official renewal on October 8th, the writers’ room is reportedly in full swing, hard at work shaping the plot and character arcs that will drive Season 2.
For Dexter fans, 2025 has been a very strong year. Two major shows made headlines, and while Original Sin met an early end, it still managed to leave a strong impression among viewers. But the real winner was Dexter: Resurrection, which reignited the franchise with a ten-episode run that kept us hooked.
Now, the biggest question on everyone’s mind is simple: what’s next? While there won’t be any new episodes for the rest of 2025, all signs point to 2026 being another big year for the franchise. Not only will it mark Dexter’s 20th anniversary, but it will also bring us the highly anticipated second season of Dexter: Resurrection. From a writing standpoint, Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds remain at the helm of the upcoming season, following the tremendous success of Season 1 on every level. In terms of acting, Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott are both confirmed to return, reprising their roles as Dexter and Harrison Morgan. Interestingly, unlike the first season, which began filming in the middle of winter (on January 9, 2025), Season 2 will kick off under much warmer conditions.
When Will Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Begin Filming?
According to the Film and Television Industry Alliance, production on the second season of Dexter: Resurrection is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 13, 2026. That means cameras will start rolling in the heart of spring, around the same time Season 1 was filming its seventh episode.
Where Will Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Take Place?
If you were hoping for a return to the streets of Miami, don’t hold your breath. The same production listing confirms that Dexter will remain in New York City for another season, with filming locations including the Bronx and Yonkers. The Big Apple has proven to be a perfect backdrop for Dexter, offering a colder and grittier tone that fans have truly embraced. This time though, it seems like the events of the season will be taking place in summertime.
What Does This Mean for the Release Date?
Because filming will start three months later than it did for Season 1, it’s unlikely that the new season will premiere during the summer. If we follow the same post-production schedule as last time, Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will most likely debut around October 2026.
