All signs point to the System of a Down bassist playing one of Leon Prater's serial killers from the files Dexter took with him.
Paramount+ recently released the first glimpse at the highly anticipated second season of Dexter: Resurrection, and one of the images actually confirmed that another famous figure has joined the cast.
Not only that, but he appears to be playing a serial killer who will end up facing Dexter’s justice. We’re talking about System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian, who is set to appear in the Season 2 premiere.
Odadjian is not widely known for his acting work, as his credits outside the music world are very limited. However, his casting may have something to do with his decades-long friendship with director Marcos Siega, who reviously directed two of System of a Down’s most famous music videos.
One of the official stills from Episode 1 confirms that Odadjian’s character is a killer, and that he will apparently end up on Dexter’s table. Or more accurately, tied to a pole.
The image shows him wrapped in plastic and waiting to face Dexter’s justice. The biggest question now is who exactly Shavo Odadjian is playing.
Paramount+ Revealed His Character’s Name, but Not His Nickname
According to the information released alongside the still, Odadjian’s character is named R.H. Martin. However, there is one major detail missing and that actually is the nickname attached to his crimes.
But... what if we told you that the answer may have already been revealed during the Season 1 finale?
A close-up shot in Episode 10 showed the names of several serial killers connected to Leon Prater. Three of the monikers visible in that scene were the Jawsplitter, the Midnight Mangler, and the Yonkers Slayer, the last of whom is seemingly the only one linked to New York.
Based on what we currently know about Season 2, there is a huge possibility that R.H. Martin is one of those three killers.
Three Famous Names Could Be Playing Prater’s Serial Killers
Shavo Odadjian may be the final member of a trio of famous guest stars playing killers previously supported or admired by Leon Prater.
The other two appear to be Kane Hodder, best known for playing Jason Voorhees in several Friday the 13th films, and wrestling legend Chris Jericho.
In a recent article here on Dexter Daily, we speculated that Jericho and Hodder could be playing the Midnight Mangler and the Yonkers Slayer, respectively. That theory was based on key evidence from the set, including paparazzi photos and BTS images shared by executive producer Scott Reynolds.
If those predictions are correct, that would leave only one name for R.H. Martin.
Is Shavo Odadjian Playing the Jawsplitter?
Based on the available evidence, we actually believe Shavo Odadjian may be playing the serial killer known as the Jawsplitter.
The nickname alone suggests that Martin is responsible for some truly horrible crimes. However, as with the other killers in his collection, that would not have stopped Leon Prater from idolizing, and financially supporting him.
This could be another example of the influence Leon Prater will continue to have over Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. Although Prater is dead, and his death took place years earlier due to the upcoming time jump, the consequences of his actions will still have a significance.
The Season 2 Premiere May Feature a Kill Montage
How could appearances from Chris Jericho, Kane Hodder, and Shavo Odadjian all fit into the Season 2 premiere?
The most likely explanaiton is that Episode 1 will feature a brief montage showing some of the people Dexter killed between the Season 1 finale and the beginning of Season 2.
With the new season actually taking place a few years later, a montage would give a quick look at what Dexter has been doing during the missing period. Jericho, Hodder, and Odadjian could all appear as killers Dex tracked down and eliminated during that time.
It would also explain why Odadjian’s character is already wrapped in plastic in the first official image from the episode.
