Official Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Image Shows Dexter Holding Hands With a Former Enemy — But Is There a Twist?

What fans first spotted months ago in set photos has now been officially confirmed through new stills from Paramount+. But is everything really as it seems?

Paramount+ has officially made it public. Dexter Morgan and his former enemy Charley Brown are holding hands in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, and it has fans questioning if everything is really as it seems.

It was last year when Uma Thurman best known for playing the iconic Bride in Kill Bill joined the series as Charley, a character who began Season 1 as the right hand and fixer of billionaire Leon Prater before eventually becoming one of Dexter Morgan’s enemies.

Charley’s story appeared to be over after she took her seriously ill mother and fled New York City right before Prater’s true self was revealed by the media. However, it has been official for months now, that Thurman is not done with Dexter: Resurrection, and the most recent evidence are more than enough.

She is returning as a series regular in Season 2, and based on everything we have seen so far, Charley’s next chapter could be much bigger, and far more surprising than anyone expected.

Dexter and Charley Were Spotted Holding Hands

In mid-May, dozens of images from the set surfaced online showing Charley and Dexter enjoying a late-night dinner together. The candles on the table already gave the scene a romantic atmosphere, but the biggest clue was that Dexter and Charley were seen holding hands across the table.

At the time, the images immediately made everyone think that the two former enemies could become romantically involved in Season 2. Now, Paramount+ has made the moment official.

On July 28, the streaming service released ten first-look images from different episodes of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. Surprisingly, one of the photos that was revealed showed Dexter and Charley holding hands while staring into each other’s eyes.

The official still actually confirmed what had already been seen in the set photos. It also appeared to suggest that something more than an uneasy alliance could be developing between them. The setting, their body language and the intimate way they are looking at each other all point in the same direction: Dexter and Charley may be going from mortal enemies to a couple.

However, some fans believe the image is intentionally misleading.

Are Dexter and Charley Only Pretending?

In the comment section of Dexter Daily’s Instagram post about the new images, several fans suggested that there may be a twist behind the Episode 2 photo.

According to this theory, Dexter and Charley are not actually on a romantic date. Instead, they could simply be trying to blend in while working together on some kind of mission.

That explanation would definitely make sense, especially since there must be an important reason for Charley to return to New York after leaving for Amherst in the Season 1 finale.

Other footage from filming has also shown Dexter and Charley apparently going after the character played by Gabriel Luna. That raises the possibility that the two former enemies will form an alliance against a specific new threat.

And to carry out their plan without drawing attention, Dexter and Charley may have to pretend to be a couple, despite everything that happened between them in Season 1.

Did Paramount+ Intentionally Reveal a Big Spoiler?

Paramount+ choosing this particular photo for the first official batch of Season 2 images may also support the idea that there is actually more to the scene than meets the eye. Dexter and Charley holding hands is, without a doubt, a huge development, as it practically reveals that the two characters will become romantically involved.

It would be a surprisingly big spoiler for the network to reveal so early in the promotion of the new season. That could mean the image has been taken out of context and the real explanation might be different from what people initially assume.

The still may have been selected precisely because it creates questions without revealing what is truly happening in the scene.

A Legit Romance Is Still Possible

Despite the theory that Dexter and Charley are only pretending, the most obvious explanation cannot be ruled out. Looking back at Season 1 we can definitely say that it included a couple of moments that could be described as growing attraction between them. Those scenes may have laid the groundwork for a much more... personal relationship in Season 2.

Some of most memorable romances on TV and film have actually begun with two characters strongly disliking (or even hating) each other before those feelings slowly developed into somehting else. Dexter and Charley certainly have enough history and tension for that kind of storyline.

Charley also has one important reason to view Dex differently. Although Dexter is a serial killer himself, he targets other killers. Charley hates serial killers, but she may eventually recognize that Dexter uses his darkness to stop people who are even worse.

And that shared goal could be the key to changing their relationship.

Romance, Alliance or... Something Else?

Everything remains possible at this point. Dexter and Charley could genuinely develop feelings for each other. They could be pretending to be romantically involved while hunting someone together. It is also possible that the truth falls somewhere between those two theories, with a fake relationship eventually becoming real.

The one thing actually appears to be obvious is that Dexter and Charley will form some kind of alliance in Season 2, that might benefit both of them.

Which theory do you think is more likely? Will Dexter and Charley really develop a romantic relationship, or are they simply pretending to be a couple so they can blend in?
