Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Timeline Revealed — Exact Year and Month Finally Confirmed

We can finally confirm the time jump of the second season. Here's when it takes place.

Following the Season 1 finale of Dexter: Resurrection, many fans were left wondering how far into the future the upcoming second season would take place. Now, we finally have not one, but two new separate pieces of evidence that confirm not only the year, but even the exact month Season 2’s events are set in. And yes, that year is 2026, the current real-life year.

That means we can now say with even more confidence that the gap between Season 1 and Season 2 of the sequel series will actually be four years and three months. Since we now know the new season specifically takes place in mid-June, this officially becomes the biggest time jump between seasons in any Dexter series so far.

Of course, this is not the first time we’ve talked about such a massive jump forward in time.

Back in April, in an article shared here at Dexter Daily, we were the first to report that Season 2 would take place in 2026. The clue came from a shot of Dexter’s car, which featured a license sticker clearly marked with the year 2026. At the time, it seemed intentional rather than accidental.

Still, many fans had trouble believing a time jump that large was actually possible. Some even thought it was a misunderstanding, while others assumed it was simply a production mistake. But as it turns out, we were completely correct.

And now, two more different pieces of evidence spotted during filming on May 18 confirm beyond doubt that Season 2 takes place in 2026.

How Was the Time Jump Confirmed This Time Around?

The first clue is more subtle than the second one which is the big one, but it still says a lot. Newly surfaced and very spoilery set photos featuring Uma Thurman from May 18, show the actress in character as Charley, holding what appears to be an iPhone 17 Pro. Because the phone’s distinctive camera matches Apple’s 2025 lineup, it actually suggests the story does not take place in 2022 like Season 1 did, nor does it take place in 2023 or 2024. But wait... there is more.

If this is not enough, the clearest and most important evidence came from newspaper props spotted at a newspaper stand built specifically for the show somewhere in Manhattan. Photographer Jose Perez captured close-up shots of the papers, which were created and printed just for Dexter: Resurrection. On the front pages, the headlines focused on a recent crime committed by the Five Borough Killer, a Season 2 main antagonist.

While the New York Post prop didn’t include a visible date, the Daily News newspaper on the right clearly displayed the date Tuesday, June 16, 2026. That actually reveals exactly when the events of the opening episodes (and likely the season itself) are taking place.

So there it is. At this point, the evidence is overwhelming, and Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 undeniably takes place in June 2026.

For comparison, the entire first season took place between late February and late March of 2022. Because of how important Batista’s murder investigation became by the finale, many fans actually assumed the next season would continue shortly after those events. Instead, it looks like the writers decided to take a major risk and move the story forward by more than four years.

We still don’t know how certain storylines will be handled after such a long gap, but when it comes to Harrison, time appears to have treated him well. In fact, recent set photos strongly suggest he has already taken a major step forward in life.

So, what do you think now that the four-year time jump we first reported back in April has officially been confirmed?
