The band released a lyric video, giving fans their first taste of the upcoming album’s lead single.
Even though he’s currently filming Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection, the multitalented Michael C. Hall has also been busy with music. His band, Princess Goes, has released a brand-new single titled “Stranger,” the first official release from their upcoming album, which is expected later this year and still doesn’t have an official title.
The track, which was actually teased on the band’s social media accounts weeks earlier, is being described as an epic and cinematic introduction to Princess Goes’ next chapter, while also serving as an ode to human connection and personal growth.
But what is “Stranger” really about?
In a new interview with Northern Transmissions, Hall explained that the song is “about meeting each other with kindness and curiosity.” He also described the musical direction behind it, saying, “A seminal 1990s grunge bass intro leads us into 1990s Britpop dance blur. We finally meet each other in the massive, epiphanic, glorious, and soaring finale, no longer strangers, but as... friends.”
In the same interview, drummer Peter Yanowitz reflected on how naturally the band came together, explaining that Princess Goes entered each of their lives unexpectedly.
According to Yanowitz, the group wasn’t originally formed with the intention of becoming a band. Instead, it started with three friends spending time together creatively in a downtown New York City space where they would meet and experiment with different ideas. Over time, they actually created enough material that they felt ready to share with the world, and they’ve continued moving forward ever since.
Listening to this new track, it’s easy for us Dexter fans to imagine it playing during the end credits of an episode. Its haunting vibe and emotional lyrics actually seem like a perfect fit, but it all depends on the tone of a final scene in the upcoming episodes.
It also wouldn’t be the first time music from Princess Goes has appeared in the franchise, as songs from Hall’s band have already been featured twice before.
