It seems that, for the second season in a row, Harrison is being used as a way to honor Dexter’s deceased characters.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is now in its third week of production, with filming taking place across different spots in New York City. As expected, photos from the set keep popping up online, usually showing cast members in between takes. But last week, a specific batch of images actually got fans talking a lot more than usual.
Those photos featured Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and they revealed a pretty big change for the character. As we all know, in Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection, Harrison was working as a bellhop at the Empire Hotel, trying to figure out his place in the Big Apple. Now, it looks like he’s taking a major step forward. Surprisingly, Season 2 will waste no time, and put Harrison in the role of a police officer.
The images made it clear, showing him in full uniform alongside a new main character played by Nona Parker Johnson. It’s about as direct a confirmation as fans could get about what’s coming next for Dexter’s son. And honestly, this career move for Harrison isn’t random at all, even if some fans seem to overlook that. It actually connects deeply to the show’s past, and to two major characters who sadly are no longer around.
That connection leads straight to Harry Morgan and Debra Morgan, his grandfather and aunt. Harry, as every fan knows, was a police officer, and he was on duty when he found Dexter as a child in that infamous shipping container.
After Harry’s death, Debra followed a similar path, something we very briefly saw explored in Dexter: Original Sin. In the original Dexter, Debra grew from a determined cop into a detective and eventually a lieutenant.
Now, it seems like Dexter: Resurrection is setting Harrison on a similar trajectory. And this choice actually works on many levels, but the most meanignful one is pretty obvious. It serves as a quiet and also emotional nod to both Harry and Debra.
Of course, is not the first time the series has used Harrison as an echo to the past. Throughout Season 1, he worked at a hotel, which mirrors the job his mother, Rita Morgan, had before he was born. Now, that pattern seems to continue, this time honoring Harry and Debra instead.
Some of you might feel like these callbacks are a bit... forced to fix his image, especially considering how Harrison was portrayed in Dexter: New Blood. But Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection already showed a big change in his character, and it was natural enough that it didn’t come off as artificial.
At this point, with Harrison becoming much more likable again, these choices actually feel like a legit nod to the Dexter’s 20-year history, and nothing more.
