Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Confirms Blessing Kamara’s Return—But Another Series Regular May Be Leaving

It looks like not every series regular from Season 1 will return, at least not in the same capacity.

So far, several characters from Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 have been confirmed to return in Season 2, and many of them were recently spotted in new set photos from New York City alongside a few new faces. Still, there are some series regulars from the first season who haven’t been seen on location yet, which actually raises questions about their status.

One of those names is Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, who played Blessing Kamara. His role in Season 1 ended up being much bigger than expected, especially since he was only introduced in Episode 2. Blessing became a key part of Dexter Morgan’s life in New York, helping him settle in and, in many ways, acting as a... lucky break for him.

While Mwine hasn’t been spotted in early set photos or shared any updates from filming so far, we can confirm that he will reprise his role as Blessing Kamara in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

There’s also an additional confirmation about it, in a recent behind-the-scenes video shared by the official Dexter account. In the clip, Michael C. Hall and James Remar announce that filming for Season 2 has officially started, and it was actually shot inside the same basement apartment Dexter used in Season 1 (the one rented to him by Blessing) which of course suggests that the character is still part of the story.

The bigger question now is how important Blessing’s role will be this time around. With so many new characters being introduced, there’s a chance his screen time could be smaller compared to Season 1.

Another Season 1 series regular whose return is now in doubt is Emilia Suárez, who played Elsa Rivera, Harrison’s co-worker and awkward crush at the Empire Hotel. While she was part of the main cast last season, recent set photos and story hints suggest things are changing a lot for Harrison.

From what we’ve seen so far, Harrison seems to have moved on in a big way. He’s entering a new phase of his life, including a different career path, which means he’s no longer connected to the same enviromnent we saw since the Season 1 premiere. Now, with new colleagues and new relationships coming in, it seems like there may not be much room left for Elsa Rivera, at least not in the same capacity.

The addition of new series regulars like Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson, who are set to play Captain Mixon and Fiona Mixon, further points to a change in Harrison’s storyline. Changes like this usually affect the main cast, and it could decide which characters stay important in Season 2.

That said, this doesn’t necessarily mean Emilia Suárez is completely out. Elsa could still appear in a guest role here and there, especially considering the bond she and her son built with Harrison in Season 1. Their connection was actually meaningful, and the show could bring it back when needed.

Right now, it looks unlikely that Suárez will keep the same main-cast status she had before. On the other hand, despite the time jump hinted at in filming, Blessing Kamara still seems to be part of Dexter’s life. It’ll be interesting to see how both of these characters fit (or don’t fit) into the direction Season 2 is taking.
