With a short but clever teaser featuring Michael C. Hall, Paramount+ has declared that September 8 is going to be a big day for Dexter fans.
A brand-new season of Dexter: Resurrection is getting closer, and with a new week now underway, Paramount+ has decided to tease fans right from the start.
The official Dexter social media accounts have released a brand-new teaser for Season 2, marking the first official update we’ve received since late July. And while it doesn’t reveal the actual premiere date just yet, it does reveal when we will finally get the release date.
That’s right. All signs point to us being just hours away from finding out exactly when Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will premiere.
The new teaser announces that the official release date for Season 2 will be revealed tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8.
The video features Michael C. Hall dressed as Dexter Morgan between takes at an interior filming location in New York City. Dexter is looking at his phone, but he is having trouble making out the words on the screen.
That is, of course, a direct tease for one of Season 2’s storylines, as Dexter will be dealing with a midlife crisis as well as presbyopia, the age-related condition that can make it difficult to see things up close.
But what’s even more interesting is what appears on Dexter’s smartphone screen.
The phone shows a vertical shot of Times Square, specifically its billboards. However, the billboards have been transformed to look like the white board you would typically see at an eye doctor’s office, also known as an eye chart.
At first, the billboard clearly reads “DEXTER RESURRECTION Paramount+.” But when the time comes for the release date to appear, things become much blurrier for Michael C. Hall’s Dexter.
While “NEW SEASON” can still be seen behind the blur, the actual date is almost impossible to make out. By the end of the teaser, Hall looks at the screen and says, “Is it blurry, or it’s just me?”
Despite keeping the actual date hidden, Paramount+ made it clear in the caption of its official post that the Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 release date will be revealed tomorrow. The big question now is how Paramount+ plans to reveal it.
Will we finally get the long-awaited official trailer alongside the premiere date? At this point, a full trailer is highly anticipated, especially with Season 2 now getting closer and closer. Or could Paramount+ have one more trick up its sleeve, perhaps releasing an updated version of the teaser featuring Dexter wearing his glasses and finally seeing the date clearly?
Either way, this was actually an incredibly clever way to tease the announcement. It takes a major plot point from Season 2 and turns it into a playful way of hiding the actual premiere date from fans.
The footage of Michael C. Hall holding his phone also seems to have been filmed fairly recently, potentially just last week, based on the set photos we saw from Roosevelt Island. Of course, it’s possible the footage was filmed slightly earlier and simply held back for this announcement.
What do you think the actual Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 release date is behind the blur?
