"I really think we’re going to make Dexter fans old and new proud" Martinez said.
Just 38 days remain until the series premiere of Dexter: Original Sin! We’re at a pivotal moment where the cast has begun wrapping up individual scenes as production approaches completion. Set 15 years before the main series, in 1991, this new show is just weeks away from officially finishing filming. Currently, the cast is back at CBS Radford Studios, filming the season finale, penned by showrunner Clyde Phillips.
One of the prequel’s stars, James Martinez—who plays a younger Angel Batista—has wrapped all his scenes. Earlier today, Martinez took to Instagram to share the news, expressing gratitude to the entire cast and to David Zayas, the original Batista, who gave him valuable advice on the role.
In his Instagram post, Martinez shared a photo from his trailer, showcasing one of young Batista’s iconic hats and accessories used in the show, along with a heartfelt message.
"Well….that’s a wrap for me. It’s been a pleasure to meet this cast and crew and of course you Angel Batista. Thank you David Zayas for creating such a beautifully flawed character with so much charisma and heart. I’ll never forget this experience. Thank you to everyone for your hard work this season. So proud of what we have accomplished and can’t wait to share what we’ve made December 13th. I really think we’re going to make Dexter fans (old and new) proud."
While Martinez’s post suggests that he has wrapped up his time with Dexter: Original Sin, that isn’t necessarily the case. Unlike the previous installment of the franchise, Dexter: New Blood, which was conceived as a limited mini-series, the prequel has the potential for multiple seasons. However, its renewal will ultimately depend on viewership and fan feedback.
His castmate, Alex Shimizu, who portrays young Masuka, expressed hope for a second season, commenting, “So grateful we got to do this together, James! Such fun times, and hopefully more to come!!” Co-star Reno Wilson, who plays a new Miami Metro character named Bobby Watt, added, “Yessir! You are a blessing in front of the camera and off! We’re family now, hermano! Looking forward to more good times!”
James Martinez is perfectly cast for the role, bearing an incredible resemblance to the original Batista, as the image at the top of this article illustrates. Fans never miss an opportunity to express their admiration for how much he looks like Batista, consistently praising his casting.
