Dexter: Original Sin Won't Be a Limited Series – Potential for Multiple Seasons if Successful

Could the Dexter prequel have more than one season? The answer is yes.

Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated prequel series set in 1991 Miami—15 years before the events of the original show—is currently in production in Los Angeles.

The series stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater as Harry, and Molly Brown as Deb. Joining them are Alex Shimizu as Masuka, James Martinez as Batista, and Christina Milian as LaGuerta. Three new characters will also debut: Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Tanya, and Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer.

With just two months until its premiere on Friday, December 13, fans are eager to know whether Dexter: Original Sin will be a limited series like Dexter: New Blood, or if it will extend beyond a ten-episode single season.

According to sources, Dexter: Original Sin is not planned as a limited series, with potential for future seasons depending on the show's reception and ratings.

It's worth noting that production on another spin-off, Dexter: Resurrection, starring Michael C. Hall and set to continue the story from Dexter: New Blood, is set to begin in January. This could potentially shift the focus away from Original Sin as Resurrection is the primary project moving forward. Hall hinted in a Variety interview at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that Dexter: Resurrection could also span multiple seasons.

Should Dexter: Original Sin get renewed for additional seasons—a hope shared by many fans—it’s expected to introduce a fan-favorite character, James Doakes. In 1991, Doakes hadn't yet joined Miami Metro, as he was serving as an operative in the United States Army Rangers. His future interactions with Patrick Gibson's Dexter, and the early signs of Doakes' suspicion, would add an intriguing dynamic to the storyline.

Stay tuned to Dexter Daily for exciting updates on both series!
