The director of Dexter: New Blood has rejoined the team of the “Dexterverse”!
Exciting news, Dexter fans! It’s been 1,030 days since the Dexter: New Blood finale left fans divided, and now we finally have updates on the continuation of the story. Although the final episode of the mini-series, "Sins of the Father," was meant to be the definitive end for Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan, showrunner Clyde Phillips’ Comic-Con announcement on July 26 at San Diego's Dexter: Original Sin panel changed everything.
That’s right—Michael C. Hall is officially returning to reprise his role as everyone's favorite complex serial killer in Dexter: Resurrection, the sequel to Dexter: New Blood. This new series will bring back Clyde Phillips as showrunner, Scott Reynolds as one of the writers, and promises multiple seasons, a departure from the single-season format of its predecessor. Filming is set to start in January 2025, with a summer premiere, likely following the familiar 10-episode format.
Today's update brings even more excitement! After months of drought when it comes to news for the sequel series, director Marcos Siega, known for his work on both Dexter: New Blood and the original series, has officially joined the Dexter: Resurrection team. Earlier today, Siega posted an image on Instagram, sharing the storyboard cover for the very first episode, confirming that plans are in place to bring Dexter Morgan back.
The storyboard cover reads, “Dexter Resurrection 101 v05.” Just below the director’s name, there’s an orange Dexter logo with a fiery appearance. While New Blood’s logo had an icy theme, this one seems to reflect the opposite, giving off a distinctly heated vibe.
Looking closer, the logo—with its vertical lights on the left and right—resembles the rooftop of an ambulance, or perhaps an incinerator. What do you think it looks like? Let us know in the comments!
For those new to storyboards, they’re essential planning tools in movies and TV, featuring sequential drawings that outline each shot or scene. Each frame provides details like character positions, camera angles, movements, and sometimes notes on dialogue or action.
You can see an example of a Dexter: New Blood storyboard here.
Beneath the logo, we see the storyboard's creation date: October 16, 2024. Marcos Siega, cleverly using highlight markers, partially obscured part of the storyboard, leaving fans with just enough of a tease. “Jumping back into the Dexterverse,” he captioned the image on Instagram.
Marcos Siega, who recently directed Season 5 of Netflix's YOU, returns to the Dexter franchise as director after four years. His creativity and impressive work on Dexter: New Blood made him the top choice for Paramount+ executives to bring back to the team.
That was our first exciting tease from someone involved with the eagerly anticipated sequel since its announcement at SDCC, and there's surely more to come!
