For 20 years, Dexter has been known for bringing characters back, sometimes in the most unexpected ways possible. And while the most recent season of Dexter: Resurrection featured many surprising returns, Season 2 could deliver an even more significant one.

This time, the tease comes directly from Clyde Phillips, the showrunner, who shared an intriguing detail during the Dexter: Resurrection panel at New York Comic Con on October 8. While trying to recall one of his favorite scenes from the second season, he actually said:

"One of my favorites is... I think it's the end of three, when there's a knock on Dexter's door and he opens the door and he says, 'You're alive?!' And then we cut, and there's no way you're not going to watch the next episode."

It's a particularly intriguing tease, especially considering how many characters from Dexter's past could potentially make a comeback.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Episode 3 Will End With a Major Character Return

According to Phillips, the third episode of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will end with a major character return, setting up a cliffhanger that will leave fans eager to watch the next episode. The showrunner revealed that the episode's final scene involves someone knocking on Dexter's door.

When he opens it, Dexter is so surprised by the person standing in front of him that he asks, "You're alive?!" before a sudden cut to black, making it one of his personal favorite moments of the upcoming season.

Fans Think Hannah McKay Could Be Returning

The reveal immediately raises an important question, and that is... who is the character standing at Dexter's door?

A significant number of fans believe the showrunner could be referring to Hannah McKay, the character played for two seasons of the OG series by Yvonne Strahovski. Hannah was revealed to have died in 2021, during Episode 2 of Dexter: New Blood. However, some fans are now wondering whether she could have survived after all, which would mean Harrison lied to his own father about her death when they reunited nine years later.

It's actually an intriguing theory, but... Hannah's return seems highly unlikely based on what we know so far.

All Signs Point to Mia Lapierre's Return

Instead, we believe Phillips is referring to Mia Lapierre, also known as Lady Vengeance, played by Krysten Ritter. And there are many reasons why her return makes much more sense.

From set photos to official stills and her brief appearance in the full Season 2 trailer, there are already way too many clues pointing toward Mia's return. Taken together, they make a strong case that Krysten Ritter's character will play a significant role in the upcoming season.

That would also explain why Phillips chose to tease such a dramatic final scene. For a specific number of people in Season 1 has been living under the name Ronald Schmidt in New York, so Mia showing up at his apartment could mean she already knows his true identity, setting the stage for a interesting confrontation.

Of course, the exact circumstances of her return remain a mystery. We still don't know whether Mia will appear as a ghost, much like some of Dexter's other familiar faces, or whether she is actually alive. However, all signs point toward the latter, suggesting that Mia faked her death in Season 1 and could now be making a full-fledged return in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

We'll have to wait and see whether the showrunner's tease confirms our suspicions, but whoever is actually standing at Dexter's door, Episode 3 looks set to end with a reveal that we won't want to miss.
