Dexter: Resurrection NYCC Panel: Season 2 Reveals, Episode 1 Screening, and What’s Next

Dexter Daily was invited to New York Comic Con, and as one of the site’s contributors, I was glad to attend the panel featuring major stars of the upcoming season of Dexter: Resurrection.

In celebration of Dexter's 20th anniversary and the release of the second season of Resurrection which is coming by the end of this month, Paramount forwent their usual blanket premiere event in favor of multiple attractions in and around New York Comic Con.

Dexter Daily is on the ground to check out the festivities and have already had the pleasure of attending the NYCC panel where the stars and creatives behind Resurrection teased the upcoming season before surprising the audience with a screening of the entire first episode!

In addition to Michael C. Hall, James Remar, and Jack Alcott, the panel brought out an impressive chunk of the ensemble cast including Krysten Ritter, Uma Thurman, and newcomer, Bokeem Woodbine. The panel bounced around a lot in an effort to let the conversation cover the 20-year history of the show while also hinting at what's to come.

As expected, Michael C. Hall won over the attendees with his usual wit and charisma but the moderator was sure to give the rest of the cast plenty of opportunities to discuss their experiences working on such a historic series.

When Eric Stonestreet was introduced as a surprise guest (officially confirming his return as the twisted killer known as Rapunzel), he immediately got the audience laughing while sharing a bit about his audition for the original Dexter.

As much as I love hearing from the stars, I find myself more and more interested in hearing about the writing process.

Clyde Phillips talked a lot about how that process has evolved over the years and how it came together so beautifully for this new season. Michael C. Hall was confirmed to be involved with every major creative storytelling decision; a privilege that surely comes from his deep understanding of the character and the pivotal role his performance plays in the show's continues success.

These conversations gave attendees a mere taste of what to expect; hinting at several highly anticipated moments and some of the humor that fans have come to expect.

But as the conversation wound down, the moderator let the show speak for itself and gave attendees a surprise screening of the premiere episode. Needless to say, the energy inside the room was electric. I'll never get tired of watching this show in a room full of screaming fans. It's an experience I've now had three times and it's something I never could have dreamed of when the show had its original curtain call back in 2013.

Spoilers, recaps, and reviews are under embargo until the end of the month but you can see our initial, spoiler-free, impressions of the first two episodes here.

Look for our official reviews at the end of October. Next up, I'll be visiting the 20th anniversary Dexter popup museum on the morning of October 9, and will report back with photos and details galore! Stay tuned!
