Dexter’s 20th anniversary is almost here, so could Paramount+ have a major reveal planned to celebrate the occasion?

As the autumn season officially kicks off, Dexter fans have many exciting things to look forward to in the weeks ahead, and perhaps the first major one arrives on the very first day of October. That is because 10/1, marks exactly 20 years since the original Dexter series made its debut on Showtime.
This huge milestone is especially meaningful because, unlike what happened during Dexter’s 10th anniversary back in 2016, this time around we have new episodes of Dexter on the way, making the occasion even more significant for both Paramount+ and fans around the world.
So, with the second season of Dexter: Resurrection premiering on October 30, it is only natural for fans to expect something special in the weeks leading up to that date. And inevitably, October 1 actually stands out as a date worth keeping an eye on.
So, if Paramount+ does have something planned for Dexter’s 20th anniversary, what could it be?
1. The Full Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Trailer
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the official full trailer for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
On September 8, Paramount+ released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season, which also included some very quick footage from a specific episode. It would make perfect sense for Paramount+ to follow that up with a full-length trailer on October 1 as a special anniversary treat for fans.
With the new season arriving later that month, the timing would also be ideal.
2. The Official Season 2 Key Art
Another possibility is the official key art for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
Releasing the second season’s official poster on such an important date would be a fitting way to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary, especially if the artwork includes a significant nod to one of the original series posters or even recreates one.
After all, not many shows, especially non-soap opera series, can actually celebrate 20 years of existence while also preparing to release brand-new episodes.
3. The New Dexter: Resurrection Title Sequence
If you have been following our updates here at Dexter Daily over the past few months, you may already know that Season 2 is expected to move away from the short and controversial opening sequence first introduced in Dexter: New Blood and carried over into Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection.
Based on what showrunner Clyde Phillips said several months ago, the plan was to shoot and include a brand-new title sequence that recreates the iconic opening from the OG Dexter.
The original title sequence remains one of the most memorable openings in television history, so revealing its new version would definitely be a special way to celebrate 20 years of Dexter.
Something similar actually happened with Dexter: Original Sin, when its title sequence was revealed in 2024 at San Diego Comic-Con. It is hterefore possible that the new Dexter: Resurrection title sequence could also be unveiled through the official Dexter social media accounts on October 1.
4. A New Spinoff Announcement or Even a Dexter: Original Sin Renewal
Perhaps the most... unexpected scenario for October 1 would be an announcement involving the future of the Dexter-verse itself. That could potentially mean a greenlight for a new Dexter spinoff, and more specifically the long-discussed Trinity Killer prequel.
An even bigger surprise would be a second-season renewal for Dexter: Original Sin, the short-lived prequel series that ended its run on February 14, 2025, before being canceled six months later.
At this point, this scenario certainly seems far-fetched and much less likely than the three possibilities mentioned above. Still, considering the significance of Dexter turning 20, it is worth including as a small possibility.
Don’t Forget! PaleyFest Will Celebrate Dexter’s 20th Anniversary on October 9
It is also important to keep in mind that the most official Dexter anniversary celebration currently confirmed is taking place at PaleyFest New York on Friday, October 9.
Several cast and crew members will actually be there to promote Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, but it has also been confirmed that the panel will include a celebration of Dexter’s 20th anniversary.
The celebrations unofficially began on September 9, when Paramount+ released a special poster along with a promo (see it right above) featuring footage from the OG series, as well as Michael C. Hall tasting donuts and blowing out candles on a donut cake. With that already out of the way, it is definitely possible that more exciting surprises could be waiting for fans when October 1 arrives.
