Recent images from the set revealed something related to Dexter's story in Season 2, leaving fans over the moon. But how will it happen?

As filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 continues, we recently got an exciting glimpse at what's coming through a series of set photos from renowned New York City photo agency Bauer-Griffin. And based on the reaction to the photos, fans were actually ecstatic about what they saw.
Set pics taken on August 20 revealed that Dexter Morgan will seemingly return to forensics in the second season of Resurrection, something he abandoned 13 years ago in the final season of the original Dexter, when he faked his own death and disappeared from Miami.
Now, all these years later, Dex appears to be returning to his roots, and the evidence from the set is hard to ignore. He was spotted at a crime scene in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, and everything from the NYPD ID card hanging around his neck to the forensics suitcase in his hand strongly suggests that he was there on official police business, just like in the good old days at Miami Metro.
But while this gives us an exciting idea of where the story could be heading in Season 2, it also raises one big question. And that is how Dexter ends up back in forensics?
There are a few possibilities, and one particular detail from the set could actually make one of them even more interesting.
Dexter's Forensics Expertise Could Be Useful to the NYPD
Looking back at the OG series, there was never any doubt that Dexter Morgan was one of Miami Metro's best (if not the best) forensic analysts. His knowledge of blood patterns, crime scenes, and killers always made him an invaluable part of the department.
Of course, Dexter also used that expertise to stay one step ahead of the very killers he was hunting in secret.
In Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, that same expertise could once again become useful to law enforcement. Someone who already knows Dexter could recommend him to the NYPD, potentially putting him in a position where he is helping solve an important case.
The big question is who could actually make that happen.
Harrison or Detective Wallace Could Bring Dexter Back to Forensics
One of the most obvious possibilities is Dexter's own son, Harrison Morgan.
Based on everything we've seen from the Season 2 set so far, Harrison has already joined the NYPD and appears to be working as a rookie officer at the 27th Precinct. Considering how deeply his father is connected to criminal investigation and his decades of experience in forensics, it would make sense for Harrison to turn to Dex for help when a case becomes too difficult.
Another possibility is Detective Claudette Wallace.
Wallace met Dexter in Season 1, Episode 7, when he helped her understand the weapon used by the New York Ripper. Dexter's theory turned out to be correct, and that experience could have left Wallace with a certain level of respect for his abilities.
Because of that, Wallace could potentially be the person who brings Dexter into the NYPD's investigation when another difficult case comes along in Season 2.
Dexter's Return Could Be Connected to a Notorious Serial Killer
There's also a much bigger possibility. Dexter's involvement with the NYPD could be directly connected to the serial killer at the center of Season 2.
Based on the recent set photos and the official character descriptions we've received, all signs point toward the Five Borough Killer being one of the biggest problems facing New York in the upcoming season.
Dan Stevens plays Owen Stark, the man behind the killer, who has been described as a dangerous serial murderer. Severl images from the set involving Stevens have also raised questions about exactly what his role will be as the story develops.
If the Five Borough Killer becomes a huge priority for the NYPD, Dexter's unique understanding of serial killers could make him too valuable to ignore. And that could actually explain why he suddenly finds himself back at a crime scene, working alongside New York law enforcement.
One Detail Could Reveal More About Dexter's New Role
There's another interesting detail in the set photos that could tell us more about what is happening. While Dexter is seen at the crime scene, his blue Kia Optima LX is parked nearby. Looking closely, the car still appears to have the UrCar logo displayed on the passenger-side windshield.

Could Dexter be working two jobs at the same time, balancing his life as a rideshare driver with a role within the NYPD? Or could the UrCar sign suggest that his involvement with the police is only temporary, perhaps because he has been brought in specifically to help with a major serial killer investigation?
We obviously don't know the answer yet, but the fact that the rideshare branding is still visible could actually be meaningful.
For now, there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding Dexter's apparent return to forensics. Whatever the case may be, seeing Dexter Morgan back at a crime scene with an NYPD ID and a forensics suitcase is one of the most intriguing developments we've seen from Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 so far.
Eventually, the episodes will give us the answers, but until then, all eyes are on the next set photos and, of course, the upcoming marketing announcements for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
