On the anniversary of the cancellation, fans expressed their desire to see the prequel return through comments on Dexter Daily’s social media posts.
August 22, 2025 marked exactly one year since the news broke that Dexter: Original Sin had been canceled, and the decision came as a surprise to the majority of fans.
That was especially true because the prequel series had already been renewed for a second season in April of the same year, although the renewal had never been officially announced by the network.
To mark the one-year anniversary, we actually decided to honor the short-lived series across Dexter Daily’s social media accounts, including Instagram, X and Facebook, by sharing posts relate to the anniversary of the prequel's cancellaton.
As a result, fans flocked to the comment sections, leaving hundreds of comments after we asked whether they would like to see Dexter: Original Sin return for a second season sometime in the future.
The response was overwhelmingly in favor of the prequel’s return, which is quite remarkable considering that we already have another Dexter show starring Michael C. Hall, with Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 currently in the works.
Even with so much time having passed since Original Sin was canceled, fans are still pushing for the prequel to be saved.
On Dexter Daily’s Instagram account, our post also included a poll asking whether fans would like to see the show return. After more than 1.5K votes, 83% actually said they wanted the prequel to return for at least another season, while 14% felt that one season was enough. Another 3% were not sure.
Fans Share Their Thoughts One Year Later
As mentioned, the most interesting part was not only the amount of feedback we received, but also the comments from fans reflecting on Dexter: Original Sin and its cancellation one year later.
One fan said: “That had to be the best prequel of any show or movie I’ve ever seen. Every actor hit their mark.” Another fan wrote: “Of course we want it back, it was a brilliant idea also giving a chance to young new actors to show up and participate in this awesome project.”
Another fan even shared an interesting idea for how Original Sin and Resurrection could potentially coexist on Paramount+’s schedule: “No reason why they couldn't have one show premiering in the fall and the other in the spring to have people tuned into Dexter content all year long.”
Another fan questioned the decision to cancel the prequel, saying: “I still don’t understand this decision. He did a really good job trying to re-create everything and getting a similar feel. It had a lot of potential. Seems like a missed opportunity.”
Meanwhile, another fan actually praised Molly Brown, who played young Deb Morgan, saying: “Was a good show. It should come back. The actress for Deb really did the character justice and showed the audience reasons for why she is the way she is in the original show.”
A few actors who appeared in Dexter: Original Sin also commented on Dexter Daily’s posts. Among them was Isaac Gonzalez Rossi, who played Debra’s boyfriend, Gio. Gonzalez Rossi shared his own thoughts: “I think it would be very appropriate and cool if it came back for season 2…that’s just me though.”
That comment was definitely interesting to see, especially coming from someone who was directly involved with the prequel and his arc was seemingly over.
Could Dexter: Original Sin Still Return?
These are just some of the comments we received on the sad one-year anniversary of Original Sin’s cancellation, but they show that the interest in the prequel has not simply disappeared. At this point, however, a recent interview with Jane Wiseman, Paramount+’s Head of Originals, made it clear that the decision to end Original Sin was a very deliberate one.
The fact that the cancellation happened just days after the new leadership took over also appears to have played a major role in the decision, actually suggesting that ending the prequel was one of the first priorities for the new regime.
Despite that, decisions can always change eventually, and that is what we can hope for.
