Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Could Set Up Dexter's First Love Triangle in 19 Years

After the Dexter-Rita-Lila unconventional love triangle in the original Season 2, we may see a similar scenario unfold this year as well.

Warning: This article contains spoilers and speculation for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

If we look back at the OG series and the spinoffs that followed, the one thing that became crystal clear is that Dexter Morgan has always had a complicated love life.

The original pilot hinted that Dexter wasn't particularly interested in forming intimate relationships. But as the series went on, that actually changed, and it didn't take long at all. By Season 2 in 2007, Dexter had found himself in a very unconventional love triangle.

At the time, his growing relationship with Rita Bennett was falling apart, (mostly) because of Lila West. She entered his life as his sponsor, and it soon after she became the third person in Dexter and Rita's relationship. Now, 19 years later, it looks like Dexter: Resurrection could be having Dexter in a similar position once again.

Is a Romance Between Dexter and Charley Happening?

For now, this is all speculation since plot details for Season 2 remain tightly under wraps. However, several clues from the set of the sophomore season, have already suggested that things may be very different for Dexter this time around.

Unlike Season 1, where Dexter was largely on his own, Season 2 appears to be setting up an unexpected romantic relationship between him and former enemy Charley Brown played by Uma Thurman.

The biggest piece of evidence actually came through a series of set photos released weeks ago. The images showed Dexter and Charley enjoying what appeared to be a romantic dinner in downtown Manhattan while holding hands.

And honestly, that alone is enough to make fans think the two are moving past their tense history and toward something new.

Krysten Ritter's Return Could Complicate Everything

But... a recent casting announcement may have made the situation even more interesting.

In fact, theories from last year that Mia faked her death seem stronger than ever.

If Mia returns and her intentions toward Dexter are good, things could become much more complicated. Dexter may find himself caught between two women again for the first time in nearly two decades.

The Unfinished Business Between Dexter and Mia

In Season 1, Dexter and Charley's relationship started out typically, but as the story moved forward, it actually became defined by tension and conflict. But with Dexter and Mia, there was something different. The two clearly developed a mutual interest in each other from the start, and many viewers were disappointed that their connection never moved beyond that.

Season 2 might finally change that. When Mia returns, Dexter: Resurrection could deliver the relationship many fans wanted to see between her and Dexter, and potentially create a love triangle involving Dexter, Charley, and Mia.

The most intriguing part of this theory actually involves Charley herself: If Mia really is alive, then the woman who could become an obstacle in Charley's relationship with Dexter would also be someone Charley may have helped save.

Many fans believe Charley bribed the prison guard in Episode 6 of Season 1 so Mia could fake her death and escape. At this point, that remains one of the most popular theories surrounding Mia's fate. And if that's what really happened, the stakes become even higher!

Could History Repeat Itself?

Of course, this is all speculation for now, and honestly some may think this theory is a bit of a reach. But the clues we've seen so far, combined with the writers' tendency to go back to unfinished storylines, make the possibility of a Dexter-Charley-Mia love triangle be more realistic than it might seem.

The circumstances are very different from Dexter's unconventional love triangle in the original Season 2. Still, it would be fun to see Dexter find himself in a similar situation again, especially now that he's in his 50s.
