Fans aren't convinced that Krysten Ritter's character is actually alive in the second season.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Krysten Ritter will reprise her intriguing role as Mia Lapierre in the upcoming second season of Dexter: Resurrection. The news appears to confirm one of the biggest fan theories surrounding the character's fate. That her death was actually faked.
At this point, the theory seems to be getting stronger by the day. Lady Vengeance's return has already been revealed through some paparazzi photos taken on June 30 and July 1, showing Ritter filming a restaurant scene alongside Michael C. Hall.
But despite all of that, some fans have come up with a surprising theory.
Fans Think Lady Vengeance is Not Real in Season 2
Many believe that Mia is still dead in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 and that her return will be similar to Harry Morgan or Debra Morgan's appearances throughout the franchise, a figment of Dexter's imagination.
And honestly, it's surprising to see just how many fans actually believe that could be the case.
In our latest post shared on the official Dexter Daily Instagram account featuring 13 newly released set photos of Hall and Ritter together, a surprisingly large number of fans suggested that Mia Lapierre is only a hallucination.
The post received more than 200 comments in around seven hours, and some of the comments claiming that Mia is a ghost or hallucination have gathered hundreds of likes, something that proves that a lot of fans are on board with that theory.
Of course, there are also plenty of fans who disagree.
Many have pointed out that nothing in the new set photos supports the hallucination theory. One of the strongest arguments is that Dexter clearly appears to be having lunch with someone else, and not by himself. The table includes two beer bottles and two glasses of water, making it impossible that he's sitting there alone!
Another argument actually involves James Remar's presence as Harry Morgan in the same scene. Some believe it is impossible for Dexter to be hallucinating two different people at once, especially since we've never seen anything like that happen before during an episode of any Dexter series.
What Might Be the Truth?
While we can't know for certain what's happening in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, the most likely scenario is that Mia Lapierre is still alive and that she did in fact, fake her death, just as many fans suspected when she was found dead in her prison cell.
The evidence from the set photos is pretty convincing. Harry's presence in the same scene and the drinks on the table strongly suggest that Lady Vengeance is actually there with Dexter Morgan, having lunch in broad daylight.
There are even more details that support that idea.
Mia appears to be using the same Samsung Galaxy phone she carried in Season 1. The wardrobe choice the production team gave her is particularly interesting, as she is wearing a bright red snakeskin dress, which might suggest that she could pose a threat to Dexter and Harrison, considering that Dex framed her to have the charges against his son for Ryan Foster's murder dropped.
Another interesting detail is that, as she gets up and leaves Dexter's table while the cameras are still rolling, she seems to whisper something in Dexter's ear, causing him to process what he was just told.
Perhaps the biggest clue, however, comes from Dexter himself.
Throughout every Dexter series, the people Dexter "hallucinates" are those who had a profound impact on his life. From his adoptive father Harry and his biological brother Brian to Debra, Trinity, and others, these figures all played significant roles one way or another for Dexter himself.
Mia simply doesn't fit that pattern.
During her three-episode arc in Season 1, she shared a relatively small amount of screen time with Dexter and never had enough of an emotional influence that would actually justify becoming one of his imaginary... companions.
At least for now, all signs seem to point toward one conclusion: Mia Lapierre is alive.
But what do you think? Which side are you on? Do you believe Mia is just another... "vision" inside Dexter's mind, or do you think Lady Vengeance really survived and is back in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2?
