The involvement of The Last of Us star Gabriel Luna in Dexter: Resurrection has now been officially confirmed, and we now know details about his character.
As Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 enters its 14th week of filming in New York City, we finally have official confirmation about a casting report that first surfaced back in June: Gabriel Luna has officially joined the cast of the upcoming season.
The news was actually confirmed by mainstream entertainment outlets, and along with it came some very interesting details about the role the The Last of Us star will be playing.
According to the reports, Luna will portray a serial killer named Ray Ballard, who is known by the chilling nickname "The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger."
Inevitably, that nickname brings one exciting possibility to mind. Ray Ballard could very well be one of the serial killers Leon Prater, admired, funded, and helped operate behind the scenes.
Many of those killers weren't mentioned throughout the first season and, of course, never actually appeared on screen. It now looks like Ray Ballard will finally be one of them, with Dexter seemingly attempting to take him down, this time with the help of an unexpected new ally.
Luna's involvement with Dexter: Resurrection actually surfaced weeks ago after a New Yorker shared a video on TikTok showing him filming a nightime scene alongside Michael C. Hall and Uma Thurman.
At first, it wasn't completely clear that the actor in the footage was Gabriel Luna, but after examining additional evidence, we were able to confirm his identity and reported the news long before today's official announcement.
Now that we finally know who Luna is playing, it will be interesting to see what his version of a serial killer looks like and, more importantly, how dangerous Ray Ballard will prove to be for Dexter Morgan.
Luna's casting actually came at the perfect time. For much of June, the actor was on a filming break from The Last of Us Season 3, where he plays Joel's brother Tommy, giving the Dexter: Resurrection team the opportunity to bring him on board.
