Writers Guild Awards Snub Dexter: Resurrection — Shut Out of Every Category

After leading the Saturn Awards with the most nominations, Dexter: Resurrection was completely shut out at the Writers Guild Awards.

Dexter: Resurrection is actually shaping up to be one of the most...unpredictable contenders of this awards season, swinging between the possibility of major recognition and the sad reality of high-profile snubs. The latest example of the latter arrived on Tuesday, when the Writers Guild Awards nominations were officially announced.

According to the full list of nominees released yesterday, the Dexter sequel series failed to receive a single nomination, despite the fact that it was eligible in multiple categories.

For those unfamiliar, the Writers Guild Awards are voted on by the Writers Guild of America itself, with nominations actually determined by committees made up entirely of working WGA members. These writers often volunteer or are selected to serve on nominating commitees for specific categories, meaning the decisions come directly from peers who are actively working in the industry.

In this case, it appears that Dexter: Resurrection did not receive enough support from fellow writers to actually secure a nomination. The snub is particularly striking when viewed in contrast with developments from just one day earlier, when the series received six nominations in five different Saturn Awards categories.

To put things into perspective, Dexter: Resurrection was eligible in three Writers Guild Awards categories.

In the Drama Series field, the nominees included Andor on Disney+, The Pitt on HBO Max, Pluribus on Apple TV, Severance on Apple TV, and The White Lotus on HBO Max. The New Series category featured The Chair Company, The Pitt, Pluribus, The Studio, and Task. Meanwhile, the Episodic Drama nominees consisted of “7:00 A.M.” from The Pitt, “A Still Small Voice” from Task, “Charm Offensive” and “Got Milk” from Pluribus, “Execution” from The Handmaid’s Tale, and “Reunion” from Forever.

The winners of the Writers Guild Awards will be announced on March 8, the same day the Saturn Awards reveal their winners. For us Dexter fans, however, all eyes will definitely be on the Saturn Awards, where Dexter: Resurrection still stands a strong chance to shine.
