Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Makes a Major First With a Brand-New Filming Base

The upcoming season will become the first production to film at one of New York’s brand-new studios.

The scripts for the second season of Dexter: Resurrection are now deep into development in the Los Angeles writers’ room, and a major new update suggests the series is actually moving forward with real momentum. Things are clearly starting to fall into place, and this latest news makes the future of the show feel more concrete than ever.

Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection is officially set to begin filming on April 13, and it will also make television history in the process. The series will be the very first production to shoot at New York’s brand-new Sunset Pier 94 Studios, a purpose-built film and television facility set to officially open later this month along the Hudson River waterfront in Manhattan. It is a significant milestone not just for Dexter, but also for New York’s production landscape.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Television Studios, which is behind the upcoming season, has signed the first-ever lease at Sunset Pier 94 Studios. The studio will occupy roughly 70K square feet of the massive 232K-square-foot complex, along with two of the facility’s six sound stages, actually cementing Dexter: Resurrection as the flagship project launching the space.

Drew Brown, executive vice president of production for Paramount Television Studios, shared his enthusiasm in an official statement, saying the team is thrilled to bring season two to Sunset Pier 94 Studios and its state-of-the-art sound stages. He noted htat while last season saw Dexter move to New York City, the production is now fully following suit, taking advantage of the region’s creative talent, competitive tax credit program, and reinforcing Paramount’s continued commitment to U.S.-based production.

With Dexter: Resurrection remaining firmly rooted in New York City for season two, Paramount Television Studios is also benefiting financially. The production is actually receiving an additional 10 percent New York State tax credit on top of the existing 30 percent incentive it already secured for filming the series in the state, making New York an even more attractive long-term home for the franchise.

Empire State Development president, CEO, and commissioner Hope Knight also commented on the announcement, congratulating Sunset Pier 94 Studios on landing the second season of Dexter: Resurrection. She highlighted the strong economic impact season one had on local neighborhoods through job creation and small business spending.

Taken together, this news sends a clear message. Despite recent changes in leadership at Paramount that unfortunately resulted in the cancellation of Dexter: Original Sin, the company is still placing strong confidence in Dexter: Resurrection. The series remains a valuable asset for the streaming service, that continues to draw subscribers and justify major investment, which of course proves that Dexter’s legacy is far from over!
