The beloved actor is back to where it all began.
Dexter: Original Sin has officially premiered, with its first episode now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime. Although a prequel, the series intriguingly begins in the future, revealing the aftermath of the nearly fatal confrontation between Harrison and Dexter—a finale that once again left fans divided.
Much of the prequel’s events play out as flashes before Dexter's eyes while he’s being saved by doctors following the severe blood loss caused by Harrison’s attempt to kill him. While the premiere offers no new insights into the post-Dexter: New Blood timeline, it's safe to assume that future episodes will delve into these details.
During the production of Dexter: Original Sin, Michael C. Hall returned to portray Dexter Morgan in a fascinating twist. On set, executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds invited Hall to visit the recreated Miami Metro P.D. set, which had been painstakingly reconstructed to match the original from the main series. Naturally, Hall accepted the offer and even took a photo inside Dexter’s iconic laboratory. This marked his first visit to a Dexter-related set since 2013, when he filmed the original series’ final season.
Reynolds reflected on the moment during the first episode of Dexter: Final Cut, the after-show for Dexter: Original Sin hosted by Jamie Chung:
“There was a moment when we were filming a scene where Michael’s character dies and comes back to life. I asked if he wanted to see the Miami Metro set, and he said yes. Watching him absorb and react to the set was magical. He even sat in his old chair at Miami Metro Homicide—it was like time had stopped. Moments like these remind me how lucky I am to be part of this incredible world.”
