The second episode of the YouTube series is here, and this time, a writer and an actor are reacting to various episodes from across the Dexter franchise.
For a second consecutive week, Dexter's Kill Room is back, and although Season 3 doesn't have specific hosts like the previous season, it continues to bring in some very interesting guests. This time, for Episode 2, executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds and Jack Alcott are the ones sitting down to revisit some memorable moments from the Dexter franchise.
Sitting side by side in a room actually designed to resemble the average kill room of our favorite antihero, Reynolds and Alcott watch and discuss key scenes from various episodes of the original Dexter, Dexter: New Blood, and, of course, Dexter: Resurrection.
And this time, all of those scenes are connected to Harrison Morgan and his evolution throughout the franchise.
Harrison’s Story Begins With Trinity
The episode begins with one of the most shocking moments in television, and that is the final scene of the Season 4 finale, “The Getaway.” Reynolds and Alcott revisit the moment when Dexter returns home to find Rita murdered by the Trinity Killer, while Harrison witnesses his mother's death.
From there, the two move on to the original and still-controversial series finale, “Remember the Monsters?” They watch the scene where Dexter says his final goodbye to Harrison and Hannah, making an empty promise that he will eventually follow them to Argentina.
Revisiting Dexter: New Blood
The rewatch then moves to Dexter: New Blood, beginning with “Cold Snap,” where Dexter reunites with Harrison nearly ten years after abandoning him with Hannah.
Episodes “Storm of F*ck,” “H Is for Hero,” and “Too Many Tuna Sandwiches” follow, and this is where we get some particularly interesting insights into the show. Reynolds and Alcott also revisit the surprising first scene that Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott shot together, which also featured Jennifer Carpenter.
Next comes Episode 9, “The Family Business,” a key episode for both Dexter and Harrison. Harrison witnesses his father not only committing a crime for the first time, but also takes part in the entire gruesome process.
The Dexter: New Blood portion of the rewatch comes to an end with “Sins of the Father” and its (extremely) controversial ending. In the snowy woods of Iron Lake, Harrison confronts Dexter and ultimately kills his own father.
But, much like Dexter's story itself, the rewatch doesn't actually end there.
Dexter: Resurrection Continues Harrison’s Evolution
Reynolds and Alcott then move on to Dexter: Resurrection, revisiting scenes from the series premiere, “A Beating Heart,” followed by Episode 5, “Murder H*rny,” and, last but not least, the Season 1 finale, “And Justice for All.”
It's a particularly interesting way to look back at Harrison's journey, especially considering how much the character has changed since we first saw him as a little kid in the original series.
Overall, it's definitely a fun watch, and just like the previous episode of Dexter’s Kill Room, which featured Krysten Ritter and Eric Stonestreet, the second episode runs for around 30 minutes.
