Just in: Paramount+ un-renewed the Dexter prequel series.
SHOCKER: Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series starring Patrick Gibson in the titular role, has been canceled by Paramount+, reversing the Season 2 renewal from April 1st.
Variety, which first reported the news, learned from sources that Paramount has decided not to continue with another season of the prequel series. Although a Season 2 renewal was announced back in April, insiders reveal the show has actually been on hiatus, with no production plans or filming dates ever moving forward. The series originally premiered in December 2024 and concluded its first — and now only — season in February.
According to the same source, the decision to pull the plug on a second season of Dexter: Original Sin comes in the wake of the recently finalized Skydance–Paramount merger. With Showtime’s production operations now under his leadership, Matt Thunell and his team have chosen to shift their attention toward Dexter: Resurrection with Michael C. Hall.
It’s worth remembering that Original Sin closed out on a high note. The finale, titled “Code Blues,” drew in an impressive 2.68 million global viewers across Paramount+ with Showtime — a 27% jump from the record-breaking premiere back in December. That surge in audience proves there was still strong momentum behind the prequel, even as the focus now pivots back to Hall’s return.
