Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Is Actually Undoing One of Season 1's Biggest Deaths

It looks like Season 2 will literally bring a seemingly dead Season 1 character back to life.

As Dexter prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2026, Dexter: Resurrection looks ready to do something the franchise has only done once before: bring a dead character back to life.

The first time, of course, was with Dexter Morgan himself, which is exactly why this latest series is called Resurrection. But now it appears the show is about to live up to its title once again, this time with another fan-favorite character.

That character is Mia Lapierre, better known as Lady Vengeance, played by Krysten Ritter.

Mia Lapierre's Death Never Felt Final

Looking back at Season 1, Mia's death was one of the biggest of the season, alongside the deaths of Angel Batista and Leon Prater. Her character actually had enormous potential, which made her sudden end even more surprising.

The difference here is that Lady Vengeance's resurrection doesn't come out of nowhere. From the beginning, many fans were never convinced that Mia had actually died. Instead, many believed she had faked her death in order to escape Leon Prater's deadly rule, or a lifetime in prison.

Those theories began shortly after Episode 6 aired and continued for months. Krysten Ritter herself even hinted several times that we might not have seen the last of Mia Lapierre.

Krysten Ritter Officially Returns in Season 2

And now, it's official. On June 29, i
t was officially confirmed that Krysten Ritter will reprise her role
as a guest star in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

While the Dexter franchise has found many ways to bring back characters throughout the years, whether through flashbacks, hallucinations, or... "ghost" appearances, newly set photos released a day later actually changed everything.

Mia Lapierre is back in the flesh. And that means that she faked her death to escape justice, just as fans had been theorizing for nearly a year.

New Set Photos Seem to Confirm Mia Is Alive

In the newly released photos, Krysten Ritter is seen in character as Mia meeting with Dexter at a restaurant in broad daylight. Everything about the scene suggests that Mia is really there and not another figure inside Dexter's mind, like Harry, Debra, or even Brian.

Interestingly, in one of the set photos released by the Bauer-Griffin photo agency, which you can see right below, James Remar was also spotted at the same filming location alongside Michael C. Hall and Krysten Ritter. His presence actually strengthens the idea that Mia is alive, since Harry typically appears as Dexter's guide during important moments and interactions, making it unlikely that both characters are simply figments of Dexter's imagination in the same scene and at the same time.

Even now, there are viewers who believe it would have been impossible for her to fake her death, even with the help of someone as powerful as Charley. Others continue to think she isn't really there at all.

What Does Mia's Return Mean for Season 2?

The biggest question now is how the writers plan to handle Lady Vengeance's return.

There are actually many exciting directions they could take with her character. Will Mia forgive Dexter and end up teaming up with him? Or will she come back seeking revenge and finally live up to her "Lady Vengeance" nickname?

Whatever the answer is, it is obvious that Mia Lapierre's story is officially not over.
