With Dexter: Resurrection returning for a second consecutive season, it appears we'll see Dexter Morgan revisiting one of his old, familiar hobbies.
Looking back at the original Dexter series, Dexter Morgan did plenty of things to appear normal to the people around him. One of those things was a hobby he occasionally shared with his Miami Metro colleagues before it quietly disappeared from the show altogether: bowling.
Interestingly, only one season of the original series actually featured Dexter, Batista, Masuka, and the rest of the team hitting the lanes. That was Season 2, which aired way back in 2007 and even gave the group matching blue shirts that read, "Bowl Till You Bleed."
Last year, Dexter: Resurrection brought bowling back for the first time in 18 years. But honestly, the circumstances couldn't have been more different.
Instead of Miami, the scene took place in New York City. And rather than bowling with his coworkers, Dexter was on a date with Mia Lapierre, whom he had met just a couple of days earlier at Leon Prater's penthouse. Now, new evidence from the set of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 suggests that bowling is returning once again.
New Set Photo Points to Another Bowling Scene
On July 3rd, executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds shared a photo teasing an all-day shoot at a real-life New York City bar.
While Reynolds didn't confirm the location, some fans immediately pointed out that another bowling scene is on its way. And the details in the image definitely point to it being a bowling alley bar. A long row of bowling pins sits across the top shelf, and there are numerous gold trophies featuring figures in bowling poses.
Who Could Dexter Be Bowling With This Time?
The biggest question actually is who will be joining Dexter on the lanes. One possibility is his son, Harrison, who will return in Season 2 as an adult with an entirely new career path. But... there may be another answer.
There's a good chance Dexter could be bowling once again with Mia Lapierre, aka Lady Vengeance, whose seemingly permanent death appears to have been undone.
Is Dexter and Mia's Story About to Continue?
At first, the idea may sound like a stretch. But there are a few reasons to think Mia could be involved.
Michael C. Hall and Krysten Ritter were recently spotted filming together for two consecutive days. Based on that, it's entirely possible that, just like Episode 5 of Season 1, Episode 5 of Season 2 could feature another similar scene between the two characters.
Of course, this makes us wonder if the outcome will actually be different this time around.
In Season 1, Dexter and Mia were clearly attracted to each other, and the chemistry between Hall and Ritter honestly was undeniable. Unfortunately, things never progressed further, as Mia's confession left Dex with no choice but to stop her by framing her.
Now that Mia appears to be back, the dynamic between them could be very different.
If the two somehow manage to move past everything that happened in Season 1, there's a real possibility that their relationship could finally go somewhere. It's something many viewers seemed to want the first time around, and Season 2 may have another chance to explore it.
Something More Than Just a... Bowling Scene
No matter who ends up at the bowling alley, the scene appears to serve another puprose as well.
If bowling really is returning for a second straight season, it feels like a very cool and deliberate Easter egg and a nod to the original series. And with Dexter celebrating its 20th anniversary this autumn, it seems even more fitting.
