The beloved actor has earned his first award recognition for reprising Angel Batista in the first season of the sequel series.
Looking back at the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, which began releasing episodes around this time last year, one returning character actually had audiences on the edge of their seats. It wasn't just because of the character's importance to the story, but also because of the performance behind him.
That character was none other than Angel Batista, played by David Zayas. Across nine episodes of Season 1, Zayas arguably delivered the strongest performance of his career. While he, along with most of the cast, was overlooked during the recent major TV award nominations, he has now received some well-deserved recognition at the 2026 Imagen Awards.
The 2026 Imagen Awards celebrate and support showing Latino people in a positive and accurate way in movies, TV, and also digital media. As a Latino actor, David Zayas has earned a nomination for his performance as Angel Batista in Dexter: Resurrection.
Zayas has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actor – Drama category, where he will face some strong competition, including Gabriel Luna, who was recently cast as a serial killer in the upcoming second season.
The nominees for Best Supporting Actor – Drama are: Andy Garcia (Landman), Coleman Domingo (Euphoria), Brandon Larracuente (Chicago Fire), Gabriel Luna (Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy)
Michael Peña (All Her Fault), Carlos-Manuel Vesga (Pluribus), David Zayas (Dexter: Resurrection).
The 41st annual Imagen Awards, hosted by the Imagen Foundation, will take place later this year. However, an official ceremony date has not yet been announced.
David Zayas' performance as Angel Batista was genuinely one of the highlights of Dexter: Resurrection's first season. It's great to see him receive award recognition for a character he first brought to life more than 20 years ago.
