Julie Benz Has the Perfect Response to Dexter Fans Who Still Think She's Married to a Fictional Serial Killer

The actress took to Instagram to share a reel with a clever response to comments from Dexter fans.

It is no secret that Dexter has become more popular than ever in recent years. The rise of meme culture, TikTok edits, and, most importantly, the franchise returning with three new TV shows this decade have actually introduced the series to an new generation of fans: Gen Z.

As a result, many have discovered the original cast and regularly interact with them on social media.

One of the actors who receives tons comments on Instagram is Julie Benz, who portrayed Rita Bennett (later Rita Morgan) in 49 episodes of the original series. Because of her character's shocking and tragic fate, fans have spent years leaving sarcastic and playful comments on her posts, and Benz has often joined in on the fun.

Her latest interaction with fans may be her funniest yet.

On July 17, Benz shared a clever Instagram reel that actually pokes fun at the fact that some fans still act as if she's married to Dexter Morgan, even 16 years after her final appearance on the show.

The reel is short, but styled like a true crime Netflix documentary. It begins with an empty chair before Benz sits down, clips a microphone onto her shirt, and holds up a framed photo from her real-life wedding. For those who may not know, Benz has been happily married to entertainment industry veteran Rich Orosco since 2012.

She also included the perfect caption: "I guess that's what happens when a show becomes iconic," acknowledging just how much of a pop culture classic Dexter has become over the years.

The playful post quickly caught fans' attention and received hundreds of comments. One of the most notable came from Christina Robinson, who played Rita's daughter, Astor Bennett, in the original series.

"Yessssss mom 😋🫡," Robinson wrote.

It's always fun to see actors come up with creative ways to interact with fans, and Benz has shown over the years that she actually enjoys joining the conversation.

Many of the comments she receives these days are also about returning as Rita in Dexter: Resurrection. Benz has previously said she'd be open to reprising the role, even if it were as one of Dexter's hallucinations, or what Michael C. Hall recently referred to as part of Dexter's "interior landscape."

For now, though, it doesn't appear that a return is in the cards.
