Dexter: Resurrection Season 3 Just Got an Intriguing Early Update From Showrunner Clyde Phillips

Although Season 2 is already in early production, we’ve received some intriguing news about Season 3.

Even though only the first season of Dexter: Resurrection has been fully released and Season 2 is already in production, talk about a possible third season has been going on behind the scenes for a while. Now, there is already an interesting early update coming from the showrunner.

During a break on set in New York City, Clyde Phillips spoke with Collider while overseeing production in different filming locations. One of the most interesting moments from the interview came when he was asked whether the creative team already has a sense of where Season 3 is heading.

Phillips confirmed that the team does have a clear sense of direction for Season 3, while also explaining that not every detail is fully locked in yet.

He actually described the process as having a general plan already in place, even if the small details still need to be worked out. He also explained his approach to development, comparing himself to a starting point that gradually grows into a complete structure as he becomes more involved with the project.

He also emphasized that, in his view, the full story is already understood, including why things happen, what should be avoided, and what will resonate with audiences: “I understand why and what it cannot do and what I should not do and what the audience would like,” Phillips said.

At first, this might actually sound a bit... contradictory, going from “not having it all figured out” to “knowing everything that’s gonna happen.” But what he is really saying is that the main structure of Dexter: Resurrection Season 3 is already set. The story direction is clear in his head, along with the rules of where the story can and cannot go.

From there, most of the work is about building and improving rather than guessing the direction. For us fans, it really is a very good sign that the show is being carefully planned and handled with confidence.

If you have been following our updates here on Dexter Daily, you probably already know that the creative team has mentioned more than once that there are ideas in place for several seasons. Even though Paramount+ has not officially confirmed Season 3 of Dexter: Resurrection yet, the overall direction behind the scenes still looks very positive.

It is also worth noting that even after changes in leadership at Paramount over the past year, the situation around Dexter: Resurrection is actually very different from other projects. Dexter: Original Sin was cancelled shortly after the new leadership took over, but Resurrection has been received with much more love. Both critical reception and viewership have been stronger, which honestly gives it a more stable position moving forward.

Originally, the plan for Dexter: Resurrection was said to be a three-season structure from the start, as executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds mentioned in earlier interviews before the premiere. However, he also made it clear that everything depends on Michael C. Hall and of course, the support of the network.

For now, nothing is officially locked in for Season 3, but the direction coming from the creative team suggests that more seasons are definitely on the table, and things are looking promising for the future of Dexter: Resurrection.
