Two brand-new characters have joined the second season as series regulars, in roles that already feel very intriguing.
If you thought Dexter: Resurrection already had enough series regulars heading into its second season, well, think again. The latest casting news proves the show is still expanding in a big way, and these new additions are not minor roles. We’re talking about two actors stepping in as full series regulars, with characters that actually sound compelling and maybe game-changing.
The news, first reported by Variety, confirms that Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson have officially joined Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
Woodbine is set to play NYPD Captain Mixon, described as “a bulldog of a homicide captain,” which already gives the impression of someone relentless, and likely to come against with anyone who gets in his way.
Johnson, on the other hand, will portray Fiona Mixon, the captain’s daughter. She’s a homicide training officer and, actually, labeled as a “nepo-baby in the police world.” While that suggests some layered storytelling, it gets even more interesting. Her character description ends with a reveal that changes things significantly: spoiler warning, she’s also set to become Harrison’s new love interest.
Yes, really. It looks like Gigi, played by Emily Kimball, is no longer part of the picture following an off-screen breakup with Harrison, which of course opens the door for this new and honestly kind of dangerous relationship in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
Before joining the series, Johnson appeared in shows like Mayor of Kingstown, The Handmaid’s Tale, Fear the Walking Dead, High Potential and Law & Order: Organized Crime among others.
As for Woodbine, he has been a more recognizable actor. He earned an Emmy nomination for his performance as Mike Milligan in the amazing second season of Fargo, and has appeared in other series like Halo, Underground, and Wu-Tagn: An American Saga. When it comes to films, his credits include Spider-Man: Homecoming, Crooklyn and others.
So, what do you think about these latest casting choices, and more importantly, how do you feel about the direction these roles suggest for the new season?
