Dexter: Resurrection Writers Quietly Give This Major Character an Official Name Change

A series regular character in the second season of Dexter: Resurrection is actually getting an official name change.

As we get closer to the Season 2 premiere of Dexter: Resurrection, more interesting updates are slowly coming to light, and the latest one is quite unexpected. It appears that one of the season’s major characters has received an actual name change from the writers.

While the reason behind the change is unknown at this point, the revelation came through a new Entertainment Weekly article, which exclusively shared some new episode photos from the second season.

The character in question is the serial killer known as the Five Borough Killer, played by Dan Stevens. When Stevens was first revealed to be joining the cast of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 back in April, all the official information, including press releases and character descriptions, identified his character as Owen Stark.

However, in one of the captions accompanying the newly released images in EW’s article, the character is referred to as Lucas Stark instead.

At first, it actually seemed like it could simply be a typo. But it turns out that isn't the case.

Dan Stevens’ Five Borough Killer Is Now Lucas Stark

Here at Dexter Daily, we took it a step further and confirmed that Dan Stevens’ Five Borough Killer is now indeed named Lucas Stark, dropping the previously announced name Owen Stark.

The reason behind the change remains unknown, but the fact that the new name is being used in an official caption suggests this was definitely a deliberate decision.

Changing the name of such a major character this late in the process isn't something that happens very often, and all signs point to the possibility that the decision may have been made while Season 2 was already in production.

Of course, there could be a simple explanation for the change, and fans shouldn't necessarily read too much into it just yet.

Why Was Owen Stark Changed to Lucas Stark?

One possibility fans might actually think of is the fact that the name Owen was already used by a character in the original Dexter series.

That character appeared in Season 5 and was connected to Julia Stiles' Lumen Pierce. Owen was Lumen's fiancé, who appeared very briefly in a couple of scenes and was played by Canadian actor David Paetkau.

However, there is nothing at this point to suggest that the previous use of the name Owen in the original series is the reason for the change. In fact, characters in previous seasons have shared names with other characters across the franchise without it ever being an issue for the writers.

It could simply be that the writers felt 'Lucas Stark' was a better fit for the character, that the name sounded better, or that something changed behind the scenes during the filming of Season 2.

Whatever the reason may be, fans should keep one thing in mind going forward. And that is that the Five Borough Killer's actual name is now Lucas Stark, not Owen Stark.
