Clyde Phillips’ Saturn Awards Speech for Dexter: Resurrection + Cast and Crew Red Carpet Photos

“‘Yes’ is the most difficult word in our business,” the showrunner said, among other things.

The past Sunday night marked a major moment for the Dexter franchise and the people behind it. At the 53rd Saturn Awards in Los Angeles, Dexter: Resurrection won the Best Thriller Series award, giving the franchise its most significant industry recognition since the original series in the early 2010s.

Despite being in the middle of a busy pre-production schedule for Season 2, which is set to film in New York City, several members of the show's cast and creative team made time to attend the ceremony.

Among those present were Jack Alcott, James Remar and Guest Actor award winner David Dastmalchian, along with key crew members including showrunner Clyde Phillips, executive producer Scott Reynolds and director Marcos Siega.

When Dexter: Resurrection was announced as the winner, Phillips took the stage to deliver the acceptance speech, joined by Reynolds, Siega, and the actors in attendance. It was an amazing moment for the team celebrating the success of the series.

Phillips kept his speech brief, actually mixing humor with gratitude toward the network, and of course the people who helped bring the show to life.

"The good news is that my speech will be shorter than Harrison Ford's, and the bad news is that it won't be nearly as elegant or eloquent. We're the luckiest people in the world. We get to do this for a living.

When all is said and done, it comes down to the most difficult word in our business, and that word is yes. When the powers that be say no, their work is over. It's easier for them.

But when they say yes, their work is just beginning, and there's courage in that, and I'm grateful for that. So thank you to Team Paramount, particularly Urooj Sharif and Tara Power for saying yes. And thanks to my writers, led by Scott Reynolds, my producing partners at Counterpart, Tony Hernandez, Lily Burns, and Ryan McCormick, my directors, led by Marcos Siega, our amazing cast, led by the incomparable Michael C. Hall.

Speaking of cast, I'm just amazed that whenever I write something, they'll take it to places I had never imagined, and those places are always better. Thank you to my fellow nominees, each deserving of this award, each pushing us to always do better. And thank you to the Saturn Award Committee.

Thank you to our worldwide audience for watching our show and saying yes. And thank you to my wife, Jane, who, when she asked me to marry her, I'm so glad I said yes. And to my beautiful daughter, Claire.

Thank you, everybody."

You can watch the full acceptance speech in a reel shared by Dexter: Resurrection co-star Dominic Fumusa.

Before the ceremony began, the six Dexter: Resurrection representatives gathered together on the red carpet, posing for photos and celebrating the moment before the awards were handed out. Check out the images from the red carpet below.
