Dexter: Resurrection Wins Big at the 53rd Annual Saturn Awards With Two Major Honors

The series just earned two award wins, including Best Thriller Series.

The star-studded 53rd Annual Saturn Awards took place yesterday at the Universal Hilton in Los Angeles, where Dexter: Resurrection walked away with two wins out of the six categories it had been nominated for few weeks ago.

Several members of the show’s creative team were present at the ceremony (see the image above), which was live-streamed on the official Saturn Awards website. Showrunner Clyde Phillips, executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds, and director and executive producer Marcos Siega represented the production behind the scenes.

Cast members David Dastmalchian, Jack Alcott, and James Remar also attended the event, while series lead Michael C. Hall was notably absent.

So...which categories did Dexter: Resurrection win? The series took home the award for Best Thriller Television Series, beating out strong competition from shows such as Dark Winds, The Lowdown, MobLand, The Rainmaker, and Your Friends and Neighbors. The show’s second win actually came in the Best Guest Star category, where David Dastmalchian was honored for his double role as Gareth, aka the Gemini Killers.

Interestingly, Dastmalchian’s win came in a category that also included fellow Dexter: Resurrection actor Peter Dinklage, who had been nominated for his amazing performance as Leon Prater. The competitive lineup also featured well known actors such as Linda Hamilton (Stranger Things), James Remar (Welcome to Derry), Samba Schutte (Pluribus), Bill Skarsgård (Welcome to Derry), and Paul Wesley (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds).

Despite the two major wins, some of the show’s other nominees did not take home awards. Michael C. Hall had been nominated for Best Actor, but the category ultimately went to Norman Reedus for his performance in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Jack Alcott was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category, but Stellan Skarsgård actually won for Andor. Karolina Wydra won Best Supporting Actress for Pluribus, beating out Dexter: Resurrection nominee Uma Thurman.

Shortly after the wins were announced, Scott Reynolds celebrated the show’s success with a photo from the ceremony, on Instagram. Director Marcos Siega also shared his excitement in a post, writing that he “had a blast” at the Saturn Awards and calling it the perfect way to kick off work on Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection after Season 1 won the award for Best Thriller Television Series.

While the series definitely deserved even more awards on the night, the recognition still is an exciting moment. With preparations for the second season already underway, this Saturn Awards win is a strong boost for everyone involved.
