Starting today, the first season of the Dexter sequel series is available on physical media.
Physical media fans, rejoice! Twenty-three weeks after the season one finale, the complete first season of Dexter: Resurrection is now officially available to own on DVD and Blu-ray. After months of speculation about whether the revival would receive a physical release, the set arrived right on schedule today, February 17, just as previously reported here on Dexter Daily.
Serving as a direct continuation of Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Resurrection marks the return of Michael C. Hall to his beloved role after three and a half years.
Set ten weeks after the events in Iron Lake, the story follows Dexter Morgan in New York City as he searches for his son Harrison, who fled after attempting to kill him. With a second chance at life, Dexter’s driving purpose becomes repairing their bond, though his path is actually complicated by dangerous new figures he encounters across the Big Apple.
A standout element of the series has been its high-profile cast, with performances from Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian adding more prestige to the latest revival.
The physical release actually arrives at a time when collectors are increasingly returning to DVD and Blu-ray, driven in part by rising streaming costs and also the appeal of owning complete editions. The Season 1 set includes three discs along with exclusive bonus content, featuring behind-the-scenes featurettes titled “Dexter Reawakened,” “The Code Lives On,” and “Father, Son and the Dark Passenger.”
The release is presented as not rated, with a total runtime of 8 hours and 33 minutes, and is distributed by Showtime Entertainment.
