Physical media fans, rejoice. Dexter's latest season is coming to Blu-ray and DVD!
It’s been nearly two months since the first season of Dexter: Resurrection ended, and with Season 2 now officially in development, some fans are starting to wonder why there’s still no news about a release date, or even cover art, for the Season 1 DVD and Blu-ray.
Over the past few weeks, rumors have been spreading on social media suggesting that Paramount’s new leadership isn’t interested in physical media, and that Dexter: Resurrection might skip a DVD and Blu-ray release altogether. Thankfully, that’s completely false. Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 will be released on physical media, but we just need to wait a little longer.
While there’s still no official release window, it is known that Showtime typically takes about three to five months after a season finale before releasing DVD and Blu-ray editions. This strategy seems to help boost streaming numbers before physical sales begin. For comparison, Dexter: Original Sin hit shelves roughly four months after its finale, arriving on June 10.
However, things are moving a bit differently this time. Unlike Original Sin, which had early previews of its DVD and Blu-ray artwork just four weeks after its season ended, Resurrection’s physical release updates appears to be delayed by the ongoing leadership changes at Paramount and the company’s merger with Skydance, which has caused some significant shakeups.
As for what to expect, the Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Blu-ray is likely to follow the same approach as Dexter: New Blood in 2022, with both a standard edition and a limited-edition SteelBook version for collectors. There’s still no confimration on whether it will be released in 1080p or 4K, though 4K still remains unlikely based on past Showtime releases.
If Paramount/Showtime sticks to its usual schedule, we can probably look forward to Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 releasing on DVD and Blu-ray around January or February of 2026.
