David Ramsey Says He’d Return as Anton for Dexter: Resurrection — Reveals He’d ‘Love’ to Direct an Episode

The actor who played Debra’s boyfriend in Seasons 3 and 4 is open to returning to Dexter.

Over the course of Dexter, dozens if not hundreds of actors made recurring appearances. Among them is one performer whose career gained significant momentum a couple of years after appearing in Seasons 3 and 4: David Ramsey.

Appearing in a total of 17 episodes, Ramsey portrayed Anton Briggs, a musician who initially drew suspicion from Miami Metro before actually becoming Debra Morgan’s first serious love interest since Special Agent Frank Lundy. The romance, of course, was short-lived after Dexter’s sister cheated on Anton with Lundy when he returned to Miami to investigate the Trinity Killer case. It was something that brought Anton’s arc to an abrupt end.

Even though Anton came dangerously close to meeting his end in the final episodes of Season 3, he ultimately survived. In a recent interview on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Ramsey reflcted on his time on various TV show, and inevitably the conversation turned to Dexter. He recalled feeling relieved back when he first-read the Season 3 scripts and realizing The Skinner didn’t kill him.

“He got skinned. His back got skinned, but he didn’t die,” Ramsey said. He also shared a behind-the-scenes detail about how cast members received scripts during lunch breaks, explaining that the first thing he would actually do was flip to the end to check whether his character survived.

When asked whether he would return for Dexter: Resurrection if given the chance, Ramsey said he would definitely be open to it. He also added that he would love the opportunity to direct an episode of the series.

While Ramsey is best known for his on-screen work, fewer fans are aware that he has actually directed multiple episodes across the CW’s DC television universe while also starring as John Diggle in Arrow. His directing credits also include The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Supergirl, and most recently four episodes of Superman & Lois.

Although much of Dexter: Resurrection’s second season already has its directing lineup, with Marcos Siega set to helm six episodes again, the remaining four episodes are reportedly assigned to a female director, who we think that at this point has already been hired.

Ramsey is not the only actor with a supporting role from the original series who has expressed interest in returning. Emmy-winning actor Shawn Hatosy recently shared that he would be open to revisiting the show and the character of Boyd Fowler despite his brief appearance and on-screen death.

For now, Anton Briggs is one of the characters that are very likely still alive in the world of Dexter: Resurrection. His whereabouts have been unknown since 2009, after he dumped Debra for cheating on him. If the writers ever decide to revisit his story, the door is clearly open.

Would you like to see Anton Briggs return in Dexter: Resurrection? And most importantly, how do you imagine that happening?
