Dexter Fans Lose It Over New Viral Video of Doakes Following Dexter ‘Everywhere’

A well-known YouTube channel brilliantly edited Doakes into scenes where he shadows Dexter in the most impossible places.

Internet meme culture is not slowing down anytime soon, and one of the most viral trends of 2025 came straight from Dexter, using scenes that originally aired nearly...twenty years ago! At the center of it all is none other than James Doakes, the fan-favorite Miami Metro Sergeant portrayed by Erik King.

Even though King appeared in just 25 episodes of the original series, Doakes has actually evolved into one of the show’s most recognizable faces, mostly thanks to the internet’s love for his attitude, and of course, his constant suspicion of Dexter.

Dexter’s resurgence in recent years hasn’t happened by accident. New series installments definitely helped reignite interest, but memes have played a massive role in introducing the show to a new wave of viewers (most of them Gen Z) while also pulling longtime fans right back in.

The iconic “surprise mother***ker” scene may have started it all, but today’s viral content actually focuses into Doakes’ almost...supernatural ability to appear wherever Dexter happens to be! That running joke, Doakes always watching and always suspicious, has now become a big part of Dexter’s legacy online.

That exact idea has now inspired a new viral video that pushes the meme to its absolute limit in the best way possible. The YouTube channel Alternative Cuts, known for their creative way to edit moments from popular TV shows and films, recently released a video imagining what it would look like if Doakes truly followed Dexter LITERALLY everywhere.

The edit is insanely well-done, and actually places him in unexpected and completely impossible situations. Based on the what we have seen so far, viewers clearly embraced the concept. Within just 24 hours of being posted, the video racked up more than 130,000 views.

What makes the edit even more entertaining, is how far it actually goes with the premise. Doakes doesn’t only appear in present-day scenes but also in flashbacks to Dexter’s teenage years, intrudes on deeply...personal moments with Rita, and even during events that take place after his own death!

It is absurd in the most hilarious way possible, and fully based on the joke that no matter where Dexter goes, Doakes is not far behind.
