The writing team in Los Angeles welcomed a special visit on Wednesday.
After months of steady Dexter: Resurrection updates, January has turned out to be a noticeably quieter month, especially when compared to January 2025. Back then, we were getting a new Dexter: Original Sin episode every single week, along with frequent news drops about Dexter: Resurrection, which was still in the early stages of production. This January, by contrast, has actually felt calm on the surface.
That sense of quiet, though, is mostly a...fan-side illusion. Behind the scenes, the team working on the Dexter sequel series has been anything but idle. With Dexter: Resurrection officially renewed for Season 2 and slated to return later this year, development is already well underway. The overarching storyline has been mapped out, and the pressure is definitely on, especially after a first season that set the bar extremely high.
So how far along is Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 in the writers’ room, which officially opened back on October 6? According to the latest information, the new season, which will once again consist of 10 episodes, has already passed the halfway point in the writing process. At least five episodes have been completed, and the creative team already knows how the season will end, along with most of the major story beats that will define Dexter’s (potential) next chapter.
If everything stays on schedule, the scripts are expected to be finished by late March or early April. Shortly after that, production will begin again, with cameras set to actually start rolling on April 13. That timeline strongly suggests that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is moving smoothly from development into full production.
Another actual sign of progress came this week when one of the show’s standout performers paid a visit to the writers’ room. Kadia Saraf, who plays Detective Claudette Wallace, one of the most intriguing new characters introduced in Season 1, stopped by on Wednesday. Saraf, who traveled from her hometown of New York, was photographed at the writers’ room at CBS Radford Studios in Los Angeles alongside executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds.
Reynolds also shared a playful tease about the upcoming season on Instagram, writing, “It’s a good day when Kadia Saraf (aka Detective Claudette) shows up. Still on the hunt for that New York Ripper guy…” It seems like the comment hints that Wallace’s pursuit of the infamous serial killer who terrorized New York for decades may be far more...complicated than it initially appeared.
While the Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 finale suggested that Dexter had left Prater’s file behind for Wallace to find, seemingly setting her up to arrest the New York Ripper, recent updates actually complicate that idea. With confirmation that the Ripper will appear on screen in a significant way in Season 2, it now seems likely that Dexter may not be ready to walk away and could decide to pursue the killer himself.
It is entirely possible that Saraf’s visit wasn’t just a friendly reunion with the team she spent months filming with last year, but also an early look at Season 2 scripts. If so, she will definitely be keeping those details tightly under wraps, just like everyone else involved with the series.
Either way, anticipation is definitely building, and with casting announcements expected over the next few months, the wait for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 should actually become a lot...easier to handle!
